FAQs

Braun Series 9 FAQs

What's the difference between foil and rotary shavers?
Rotary shavers are designed to work with cyclical movements while Braun foil shavers are designed to work with efficient sideways movements on the skin giving perfect control and precision. The foils protect the skin from irritation and are specifically designed to deliver the most thorough and comfortable shave from Braun.

Do you have any recommendation on how to shave with an electric foil shaver?
We recommend that you shave before you take a shower. Stretch the skin and shave against the direction of beard growth. At all times, hold the shaver at a right angle (90°) to your skin. Keep the pressure even to achieve the most thorough and comfortable shave from Braun. To trim sideburns, moustache or beard, Series 9 features an intergrated precision trimmer with superior cutting performance. In order to use this comfortable and precise tool, simply slide the trimmer upwards.

How do I clean my shaver?
The new Braun Series 9 cc shavers feature the Braun Automatic Clean & Charge Station, proven to clean more hygienically than tap water. The 5-action Clean & Charge Station: automatically cleans, charges, lubricates, selects cleaning program and dries at the touch of a button for lasting cutting efficiency. All Series 9 shavers are also waterproof up to 5m for full washability.

How often do I need to change the shaver head?
We recommend replacing all cutter parts every 18 months.
To maintain optimal performance, we included a replacement part indicator in the display to ensure that you know when to exchange the cutter parts.

Does the battery have a memory effect as we know it from cell phones or laptops?
No, Series 9 shavers use a Li-ion battery which has no memory effect. You can recharge it whenever you want and it has a low self-discharge rate (vs. NiMh batteries). Li-Ion batteries are therefore the most powerful and long-lasting battery available for Braun shavers.

Where is Series 9 shaver manufactured?
Like all Braun premium shavers, Series 9 is designed, engineered, and manufactured in Germany to ensure the very best build quality and reliability. All of our shavers are designed and tested to last at least 7 years, giving you the peace of mind that you can continue to enjoy the unique Series 9 experience for a very long time.

Brains or Braun?

German engineering. Some of the best products come out of Germany and I think this one is pretty darn good too!I hadn't used an electric shaver since 2005. I was 18 and my experience with them wasn't great. It may have been my youthful skin, however, 10 years of manual razor shaving was the result as my last electric shaver burnt my face to bits (really badly) with shaver burn. I never looked at a electric shaver again. Then there was the Braun 9290 cc!The packaging was pretty nifty and the insides were pretty smart too. I particularly appreciated the carry case that comes with it to keep it clean and for travel purposes also. This included a tiny brush to get at the little nooks inside the shaver too pre-self cleansing. The shaver itself is chrome and black with a gold top. Very smart finish (check my pictures). There's a switch with clicks from dry to wet shave. So the main difference I can see is the dry shave setting allows the shavers head to become flexi to follow the contours of your face and jawline. The wet shave setting allows you to choose at different stages how the head adjusts. I used this shaver for the first time with quite long hair and shaving foam and it took ages. There was however no tug when in use. I also felt that the precision trimmer did most of the work to bring it down to a suitable length so then I could buzz with the dry shave setting instead. It work pretty well and with very minor irritation. Dry, wet, manual, electric you're always going to get some irritation but this was nothing a bit of moisturiser couldn't fix. The reason I've given a 4 star all in all was because of its ability to cope with longer hair. Although it says it has a 'hyper-lift&cut trimmer,' and a 'direct&cut trimmer ' and it makes "40,000 cross-cutting actions per second", it didn't feel like it was working. Was I pushing down to hard?? I don't know, but surely the hyperlift&cut trimmer should've solved this problem. The razor is quite loud too, easily wake a small child up if you were using one around the home. So I guess the fact that it's 100% water-proof is a fantastic thing, however, I'd need a mirror to see what I was doing. They recommend you replace the foil and cutter every 18 months which is quite decent. It also comes with a manufacturers 2-year warranty which is to be expected also. You also get a self-cleansing dock with coil cord. To me, at first the cleansing dock seemed a bit pointless as you tend to wash it under the tap each time you've finished with it. How wrong was I.... The self cleansing dock is amazing. Stylish black and very smart indeed. QuiteCompact and suitable to sit on your bedroom top with minimal space. In the box you get a insert of alcohol which you simply pop into the dock with ease and it does everything for you! From a sanitary perspective this is fab. One flaw I did find is the shaver needs to be dry before placing it on the dock For a cleaning cycle. If I'm off out I don't want to be waiting for it to dry so I can then dock it! Seems a bit of a pointless suggestion as it's going to be wet after you've swilled the top out. After my first experience of the self-cleansing tool I was very pleased. It was dry, lubricated and sanitized. A fan turns on inside the machine and keeps it dry for your next use. It was a pleasure to use. A light blinks on the shaver when it's time for a clean and it also knows what intensity of cleanliness it requires which is also very nifty. It also has blue bars on an LED screen which tells you how much shaving time you have left. The dock also tells you when it's time for a refill of the alcohol solution. When this shows it means it "good for 3 more cycles".The docks charging time is 1 hour for 50 minutes use. This to me suggests it doesn't need to be docked everytime, however, the instructions say dock it for a clean after every use.I was very pleased when using this product all-in-all. If you're a man who prefers to be clean shaven all the time (like me) than this is fab. If you love a good beard don't bother. One things for sure, I'm putting my manual razor on the shelf for now, because this works for me.Hope this review helps and Stay lucky! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Braun Series 9 Shaver

My first impressions were that it looked fantastic. Really good design aesthetics. However, when I got into the box, the shaver is only suitable for use with bathroom shaver plug sockets - a problem, as I dont have one. The manual says do not use adapters, so I was not able to use it.I did the like the idea of the internal self-cleaning device. However, I was not keen on the fact that the cleaning liquid capsule had to be replaced very regularly, as did the shaver blades. Unfortunately I did not get a chance to test the quality of the shave (due to the plug issue), but the fact that you need to constantly replace the fluid/blades would definitely put me off. Nice to look at.

So I received this amazing looking electric razor and couldn’t wait to give it a try! It takes me some time to grow some stubble so I had left my face until I received this razor just so I could use it straight away. I don’t normally use electric shavers. When I got the email inviting me to try this product I was so excited. I had looked on the internet and thought “I would never spend that kind of money on a shaver” so I was even more excited about getting something I wouldn’t normally try!The package came and I couldn’t wait to open it. I got everything out carefully, read everything in the book as to not break it before I even got to try it and I ran into the bathroom to get it on charge.I let it do a full charge and did a clean cycle before I used it and was stood with amazement hearing all the noises of the cleaning dock going on. The product has got have the best design I have ever seen; it feels amazing to hold! The clean and charge dock is a great idea and mean the shaver is always charged and ready when your needing to grab it. Other contents of the box were a great little travel case, felt so good and the product was so premium looking. The build up to using this product was like a child on Christmas morning I tell you!Now the first shave. I literally had a bit of stubble, about 2-3mm if not less. People with amazing beards would laugh at how long my face takes to grow a millimetre or 2, so this job should not be an issue for such an amazing product? Right?I thought I would try a dry shave, so I did as instructed in the book. Held the shaver 90-degrees to my face and shaved in the direction of the hair growth but it was terrible. I had envisioned the little stubble I had just disappearing away with each stroke, was really happened was little patches of bald skin appearing randomly. It was so patchy! I started getting irritation under my chin and neck and thought not an issue my face must just not like dry shaving, popped some shaving foam on and sure enough a bit more hair came off but more just of a foam remover. The shave that should have took 3-4 minutes going on the amazing statements on the box of it being “Braun’s best efficacy & comfort”. The shaver it nothing I thought it would be, it was hassle, it was itchy. Perhaps the shaver doesn’t like my face hair and it’s different for other people but my experience of the product is terrible. I tried it 2 days after on pretty much a shadow and still left patchy. The design of the product has got to be one of the most amazing products I’ve seen and felt. It does sit in your hand comfortable but the end result is patchy, poor and itchy. Closest Shave

This is a fantastic shaver, if a bit loud. Gives a great, close shave. Took a while to get used to it, but it is the closest shave I've ever had. Even has an attachment switch to get rid of those longer hairs on my side burns. Not to mention it can even work in water! So no worries if any water splashes on it or using it in the shower. It is also super easy to clean, since it comes with a self-cleaning mechanism, which works very well, even if the washing dock is a bit bulky. I would highly recommend this shaver to anyone in need of a new shaver, Braun are a very reliable and safe make. Plus, if you're lazy like me and don't like cleaning your shaver, this thing pretty much cleans itself! Doesn't clean the sink of stray hairs though... German Engineering wins again!

Whatever your views on the EU, you have to agree that the Germans can make things well... good cars, good beers and now I can say good Electric Shavers! (oh and adding to the Stereotype, I'm sure it was made with great efficiency).Starting from the beginning, I haven't had a hairless face for some time now, but none the less, I decided I would give the Braun Series 9 Electric Shaver a go.Firstly, upon opening the box, and looking at the product, you can tell it is designed well, the anthropometrics of this product have really been thought about, ensuring the end user, can handle it comfortably and with ease. Feels good in the hand and extremely well built.I continued to unpack, and went on the hunt to find somewhere to charge it up. Luckily, my bathroom comes with a shaver socket, so as its only negative, unless you have the right socket or adapter, you’re not going to be able to charge it (well, you can go and buy the adapter). After leaving it charging for the recommend amount of time. I put it back in the box and came back about a week later to finally remove the fluff off my face!So as a man with a (some would say gingery) beard of at least 7 years, it was time to reveal the pasty white Englishman underneath. Using the trimmer on the back of the shaver, I began removing the bulk of the beard with easy, cutting through with ease. Once the rough stubbly chin had appeared it was time to start using the main reason this thing was designed. I have used an electric shaver before during my adolescence, and it always left my face feeling assaulted (to be fair, it was only a cheap thing), rough, sore, and looking a little red! This piece of German Engineering was quite the opposite, it left me feeling a smooth, and without irritation. The only issue now, I look baby-faced! Therefore, I am not likely to use this product again, (I like my bearded face better) unless I was needed to be clean shaven. After showing and discussing the product with my father, he has happily agreed to take it off my hands and replace his current shaver, plus he is half German, so he must know it’s good…right? So I can happily say the Braun Series 9 is worth getting! I would highly recommend this to anyone.BzzAgent, got anything to grow back a beard? [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Braun Shaver - Series 9

On first inspection it is clear this is a smart shaver, it is well weighted and comfortable to hold. It's sturdy black travel case with certainly come in useful and whilst slightly bulky, the docking/cleaning station is simple to use.I've been pleasantly surprised at its suitability to be used both daily and following a weekend of growth, always giving a very close shave when used both wet and dry. The attached trimmer is also very efficient and useful.Overall I have been very impressed, with the shaver proving to be the complete package for both use at home and on trips away. Outstanding wet and dry shave !

This is without a doubt the best electric razor I have ever used. Ultimately the most important factor for a razor is just how well it shaves ? And this is so smooth and precise. It gets hard to reach areas like the neck and jaw line with ease due to its lockable head position, so as you are shaving you can slide down the button to lock the head in position and remove the lock when you want to carry on. It comes with an electric cleaning system which also doubles up as it's charging station. So every now and then when prompted you press the button on the docking station and the razor is cleaned and sanitised by a replacement cleaning solution. You don't do this every shave but only when prompted. The razor shows you an illuminated battery indicator telling you how much power you have left so no running out of juice mid shave which is handy. Also comes with a nice hard travel case and battery lock so it does not activate when in bag. I would without a doubt recommend this to anyone ! Do your face a favour and buy one ! Best electric shaver I have used

I have always been a manual razor shaver. I have previously used some electric shaver and I think I didn't use it more than once as it was irritant to my skin, required a cable to connect and was not as close as a razor shave (I go against the grain so my razor shave is very close). Braun 9291 however is very different. I have now used for a good 3 weeks or so almost every day or so and I am absolutely loving it. Quality wise it seems very sturdy and easy to grip on whilst shaving. The quality feels very good. The package has the charger and a cleaner kit along with a cleaning brush. It's very easy to shave with and is surprisingly very quick to shave.the shave is extremely close, the same I used to get with my razor in a portion of the time. I do however note that despite the very close shave I need to do it almost every day as I note slight stubble after a day (manual razor used to last 2 days I think) but it's not that big of an issue in view of the quick shave. It doesn't irritate at all and it feels great to use. The other thing which surprises me is that the hairs just disappear somewhere in the machine, I literally do shave with my shirt on now. The machine also has a trimmer to get that perfect shape beard, it's not in an ideal place (back of shaver) and not very easy to use but I hope to ace it soon (I did manage to trim my sideburn more than required but everything works nowadays in the name of fashion). The batter lasts a while and indicates the level of battery as well as if it requires cleaning. The cleaner kit is very easy to use and takes a few hours to clean (and is charging at the same time). I note the cleaning cartridge needs replacing every few months, which seems like a hassle. Overall I am very impressed with the shaver and I hope it lasts me a while. Definitely not missing my shaving cream and my manual razor. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Amazing close shave

So I have to say this is the first electric shaver I've used in years that I'm happy with. My hair grows in really weird ways and generally this shaver catches them really well and gets a really close shave. It does take slightly longer than a traditional razor because of the way my hair grows however I get a really close smooth shave without the horrible bumps, irritation and cuts I normally get. To ensure its a good shave I can't do a dry shave as it seems to miss loads of hair but I'm use to that. The only thing this thing is missing is a beard trimmer to be the ultimate razor! The cleaning system is amazing! It's a stand, charger and keeps my razor clean and healthy so not to ruin the blades or irritate/infect my skin. I do wonder though if my clean station has an issue as it has the different settings of clean cycle and whether it's 3 or 1 it seems to be exactly the same length so it makes me wonder what the difference is on them. Also it's small but mine didn't come with an adapter voltage plug so I was lucky I had one from another razor but that would of been a pain. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
