FAQs

Braun Series 9 FAQs

What's the difference between foil and rotary shavers?
Rotary shavers are designed to work with cyclical movements while Braun foil shavers are designed to work with efficient sideways movements on the skin giving perfect control and precision. The foils protect the skin from irritation and are specifically designed to deliver the most thorough and comfortable shave from Braun.

Do you have any recommendation on how to shave with an electric foil shaver?
We recommend that you shave before you take a shower. Stretch the skin and shave against the direction of beard growth. At all times, hold the shaver at a right angle (90°) to your skin. Keep the pressure even to achieve the most thorough and comfortable shave from Braun. To trim sideburns, moustache or beard, Series 9 features an intergrated precision trimmer with superior cutting performance. In order to use this comfortable and precise tool, simply slide the trimmer upwards.

How do I clean my shaver?
The new Braun Series 9 cc shavers feature the Braun Automatic Clean&Charge Station, proven to clean more hygienically than tap water. The 5-action Clean&Charge Station: automatically cleans, charges, lubricates, selects cleaning program and dries at the touch of a button for lasting cutting efficiency. All Series 9 shavers are also waterproof up to 5m for full washability.

How often do I need to change the shaver head?
We recommend replacing all cutter parts every 18 months.
To maintain optimal performance, we included a replacement part indicator in the display to ensure that you know when to exchange the cutter parts.

Does the battery have a memory effect as we know it from cell phones or laptops?
No, Series 9 shavers use a Li-ion battery which has no memory effect. You can recharge it whenever you want and it has a low self-discharge rate (vs. NiMh batteries). Li-Ion batteries are therefore the most powerful and long-lasting battery available for Braun shavers.

Where is Series 9 shaver manufactured?
Like all Braun premium shavers, Series 9 is designed, engineered, and manufactured in Germany to ensure the very best build quality and reliability. All of our shavers are designed and tested to last at least 7 years, giving you the peace of mind that you can continue to enjoy the unique Series 9 experience for a very long time.

Great product

This product is amazing, I have always used normal razors as I have been sceptical whether these electric razors work well enough. I am now a concert, the shaver cuts just as close as a normal razor, the handle is easy to hold and is comfortable. The wet and dry function is great too as sometimes I like to shave whilst I'm the shower depending on mood and this is nice and portable and can be used in either area. Cleaning the razor couldn't be easier you just simply put in the machine and press a button. The only small issue I had was the sideburns trimmer it cuts great but not as easy to clean as the other section I found hairs get stuck in it. Best electric razor I've used.

I've always struggled with electric razors in the past, often finding that they leave my neck sore afterwards. Therefore I've pretty much always manually shaved. Not only to avoid irritation of my neck but also because of the closeness of the shave. This razor comes packaged nicely, and really feels like a top of the range product in your hand. Ergonomically designed and aesthetically pleasing. The clean and charge station has worked great, although a tad noisy during the cleaning stage which only lasts a few minutes. Overall, this razor gives an extremely close shave, almost comparable with a manual razor. If used at least every other day, it's easy to get a tidy shave and not leave any difficult to reach hairs. I found that after 2 days growth the razor struggled to get every hair, leaving two or three hairs to trim up with a blade. After trying a few shaves wet and dry, I'd recommend to use this product with shaving foam, not only does it make the shave more comfortable, the clean and charge station does a fantastic job cleaning the cartridge head after.Overall, even though I wouldn't have necessarily gone out to buy an electric razor, this product has changed my mind and now knowing this product, I would recommend it to anyone. Braun Series 9

First time I have used a electric shaver, always used razors in the past. The Braun Series 9 is light weight, easy to use and comfortable to hold. Its quite and works great with shaving foam. The Braun Series 9 provided me with a nice close shave, and I looked clean and refreshed after. Looking forward to trying it again. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

What a great shaver the Braun Series 9 9290cc is!

I have been using the Braun Series 9 9290cc for about a month now. I have had good results, both wet and dry shaving, which would suggest that this electric razor is good value for money. It gives a close shave, which is great and the fact it was free was even better. I would pay the money for this if I had to. The charge is very quick, quicker than a Braun I have had for a few years. The cleaning system is thorough and better than a previous product I have owned. Overall, I was impressed with this product, and you should be too. It does everything it says on the box, and more. Well worth the cost and you will not be left disappointed. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Handles like a dream and shaves just as well...

Firstly, I was looking to be convinced with moving to an electric shaver. I've tried them in the past and never found the closeness of shave or comfort a match for manual blades. I've tried a few Philips electrics and an old Remington but hated them, even though they boasted "wet" shave options. This Series 9 is a revelation though, although it will never completely replace my trusty Gillette Pro Fusion blades for closeness and smoothness there are a number of reasons why I'll keep it charged and in use.Firstly, the grip, feels natural and secure. The weighting of the handset is also extremely well balanced, meaning your not constantly worried about dropping your new expensive purchase on to the tiled bathroom floor. The build quality is extremely high with handle material for the palm feeling good for gripping and well-formed. The casing also has a good shiny chromed appeal and cleans easily.First use and setup for the unit is easy, with the standard two-pin shaver plug charging the handset individually, or the handset "via" the cleaning base unit. The base unit is supposedly not meant to be transported or moved once the cleaning liquid is installed as it will spill, this makes taking the unit on long holidays or moving it two different rooms precarious. You might be inclined to wonder why the manufacturers would put such high quality design into the handset, but make the replacement of the cleaning liquid seem so ill thought out. The cleaning unit does it's job well, giving a fast charge in line with the manual's suggested time and a good clean. The liquid is also not offensively odoured. The downside to the base unit is there seems to be a background hum when in use that is louder than I'd expect; this could be particularly annoying if you're using the station in an en suite or upstairs bathroom near bedrooms. In use the shave is 1-2mm if using quickly, particularly under the chin, the build in trimmer on the rear of the set deals with longer neater shaves to almost approach manual wet shave closeness. It glides smoothly, and importantly does not irritate or leave redness. There is a wet and dry setting which seems to work fine and without issue and the indicator on the handset clear points out the charge level and need to clean via clear illuminated display markers. Charge lasts a long time meaning there is no worry of half shaves if taking the unit out.Overall, I highly recommend this unit and it would be perfect if it wasn't for a few design considerations to make the end users' life more pleasant and simple.PROS:High build qualityEasy to handle and feel "natural" in the palmGood battery life and displayAesthetically pleasingCONS:Expensive unit and you'll need replacement cleaning fluidsFluid use can be messy if moving.Base can be noisy (unless it was just our unit). Shave Heaven

Now where do i start? this is like the swiss army knife of the shaving world. So the shaver it does everything you could possibly want from a shaver, in the past i have always had the old skool wet razor shave and always avoided electric shavers as i thought i would never get a could shave with it (how wrong was i)So first the shaver it has numerous blades to get all of those different length hairs, the moving head can also be locked into place to get to all those niggley hard to reach places. Another good feature is that you have a little pop up blade which is ideal for sorting those sideburns out.Next is the cleaning dock station (self cleaning i'm actually amazed) that's right after your shave stick it in the dock and it will clean the shaver for you. It has various cleaning settings to get that deep clean and it also charges the shaver at the same time, what more could you want?Perfect crisp shave and i highly recommend this product, quick quick quick get them before they are all gone. Brains or Braun?

German engineering. Some of the best products come out of Germany and I think this one is pretty darn good too!I hadn't used an electric shaver since 2005. I was 18 and my experience with them wasn't great. It may have been my youthful skin, however, 10 years of manual razor shaving was the result as my last electric shaver burnt my face to bits (really badly) with shaver burn. I never looked at a electric shaver again. Then there was the Braun 9290 cc!The packaging was pretty nifty and the insides were pretty smart too. I particularly appreciated the carry case that comes with it to keep it clean and for travel purposes also. This included a tiny brush to get at the little nooks inside the shaver too pre-self cleansing. The shaver itself is chrome and black with a gold top. Very smart finish (check my pictures). There's a switch with clicks from dry to wet shave. So the main difference I can see is the dry shave setting allows the shavers head to become flexi to follow the contours of your face and jawline. The wet shave setting allows you to choose at different stages how the head adjusts. I used this shaver for the first time with quite long hair and shaving foam and it took ages. There was however no tug when in use. I also felt that the precision trimmer did most of the work to bring it down to a suitable length so then I could buzz with the dry shave setting instead. It work pretty well and with very minor irritation. Dry, wet, manual, electric you're always going to get some irritation but this was nothing a bit of moisturiser couldn't fix. The reason I've given a 4 star all in all was because of its ability to cope with longer hair. Although it says it has a 'hyper-lift&cut trimmer,' and a 'direct&cut trimmer ' and it makes "40,000 cross-cutting actions per second", it didn't feel like it was working. Was I pushing down to hard?? I don't know, but surely the hyperlift&cut trimmer should've solved this problem. The razor is quite loud too, easily wake a small child up if you were using one around the home. So I guess the fact that it's 100% water-proof is a fantastic thing, however, I'd need a mirror to see what I was doing. They recommend you replace the foil and cutter every 18 months which is quite decent. It also comes with a manufacturers 2-year warranty which is to be expected also. You also get a self-cleansing dock with coil cord. To me, at first the cleansing dock seemed a bit pointless as you tend to wash it under the tap each time you've finished with it. How wrong was I.... The self cleansing dock is amazing. Stylish black and very smart indeed. QuiteCompact and suitable to sit on your bedroom top with minimal space. In the box you get a insert of alcohol which you simply pop into the dock with ease and it does everything for you! From a sanitary perspective this is fab. One flaw I did find is the shaver needs to be dry before placing it on the dock For a cleaning cycle. If I'm off out I don't want to be waiting for it to dry so I can then dock it! Seems a bit of a pointless suggestion as it's going to be wet after you've swilled the top out. After my first experience of the self-cleansing tool I was very pleased. It was dry, lubricated and sanitized. A fan turns on inside the machine and keeps it dry for your next use. It was a pleasure to use. A light blinks on the shaver when it's time for a clean and it also knows what intensity of cleanliness it requires which is also very nifty. It also has blue bars on an LED screen which tells you how much shaving time you have left. The dock also tells you when it's time for a refill of the alcohol solution. When this shows it means it "good for 3 more cycles".The docks charging time is 1 hour for 50 minutes use. This to me suggests it doesn't need to be docked everytime, however, the instructions say dock it for a clean after every use.I was very pleased when using this product all-in-all. If you're a man who prefers to be clean shaven all the time (like me) than this is fab. If you love a good beard don't bother. One things for sure, I'm putting my manual razor on the shelf for now, because this works for me.Hope this review helps and Stay lucky! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Braun Series 9 Shaver

Opening the box I was expecting a quality product, given it's from Braun, but pictures can never really do something like this justice and you can only really feel the quality once you pick it up. The shaver looks good but, more importantly, it feels good to hold. Build quality is clearly excellent and the styling isn't bad either (if you're particularly bothered by how a functional item looks!). The shaver comes with a nice sturdy little carry case that protects it when not in use and will be useful for when you're traveling as well as a beast of a charging/cleaning station, which surprised me a little when I saw the cleaning fluid cartridge for the first time. You can charge the shaver by a pretty standard two pronged power cable (you'll probably need an adapter if you don't already have one) or by using the base station. The cleaner works by inserting the unit and letting it clean/sterilise and dry whenever the shaver tells you it's in need of a clean. It's a nice feature that will hopefully extend the life of the product but will, of course, cost you in new fluid cartridges every 3 to 8 weeks (depending on use). In terms of performance, the shaver is easily one of the best I've ever used. I'm not a terrific fan of electric shavers as I have always found them fiddly or irritating to use and often uncomfortable. The Braun Series 9 does overcome most of these problems, but not all, which is why I felt 4 stars was most appropriate. The shaver gives a very - *very* - close shave. I emphasize that because it left my face amazingly smooth for the most part - I also found that I didn't get any irritation at all from using it (no pulling/ripping hairs out) and adding some aftershave cream was more from habit than necessity. The 'edging tool' was very effective for sideburns but I did have some trouble with properly clearing underneath my nose and on my neck. While my face took seconds to shave, there was a bit of a faff making sure my muzzle and neck were just as smooth. I do have an awkward growth pattern on my neck (where hair direction gets pretty mixed up) so others may not have the same issue. Also, it's probably fair to say that it might have felt like more of a faff given the rest was so easy. Also, as I said before, even having to go over the same area several times didn't leave me feeling irritated, even on a dry shave (it works wet as well).I also found that it was comfortable to hold while switched on, which has been another bugbear of previous experience. The shaver head is joined to the body by a pivoting mount that probably absorbs much of the vibration from the blade action meaning that you get a shaver that flexes easily with your face and doesn't leave your hand feeling like you've just been operating a jackhammer. On the whole, it's an excellent bit of kit that feels good to use, does a decent job (very quickly for the most part) and seems like thought has gone into keeping it running effectively for the long-term. I'd say it's a pretty decent investment, particularly if, as I do, you spend a lot of time traveling around for business and need something portable, quick and reliable to take with you. Braun Series 9 9291cc

I really enjoyed using the Braun Series 9 9291cc however the shaver is not as close as I like and the beard trimmer is very loud when next to the ear. But apart from that it is very nice to hold and feels good and it does give a very even shave. The fact it cleans itself is great. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

BRAUN series 9 model 9290cc

Want to start of by saying I cant believe I got this free to try out in return for my review, I couldn't believe it more so when I received in the post and looked at how professional and expensive looking this product is. Its not low to mid range at all if anything this is top of the range gear and has the full works. The dock station charges, cleans, dry's and sanitises your shaver so it's ready to use after every shave....very professional and abit posh :). This is also a wet and dry shaver and comes with a rather nice travel case and cleaning brush. (please see photo of every you get)This is the first time in years I have used an electric shaver because I remember that they really pinched and pulled the hairs out and wasn't a pleasant feeling so therefore put me off and ever since used clippers. However as i received this free I am willing to try and see how this does and see if electric shavers have got alot better and improved....and also to see if i can be converted aswell to use an electric shaver. So here's my shaving review...Its very loud but this does not bother me if this does the job, but I know things like this can bother some people. I was quite impressed with the moveable and lockable head system, I liked moveable head the best because it Pivets and follows the contrasts of your face and gets those hairs in those aquad places such as your chin line. Overall I found this actually to my Surprise to be a good close shave without the pinching...it ran quite smoothly. What I am impressed with is not just the fact its a shaver its all the little things I.e the docking station that does everything for you, which consists of a 3 minute cleaning time followed by 40 minutes of drying time (it comes up with a hygiene symbol when the shaver needs cleaning) Its a wet and dry shaver and it also illuminates with a battery symbol to let you know that its gonna need charging soon (this is useful especially during mid shave) The shaving station is an amazing idea...the shaving station is quite big so if space is an issue then you need to work out where you can put it...i.e maybe on top your chest of drawers or bedside table. They recommend you replace the foil and cutter every 18 months which is quite decent. It also comes with a manufacturers 2-year warranty which is to be expected also. Depending on how much you shave you have to bear in mind replacing the cleaning cartridges but this is well worth it, as the station does all this for you and you don't have to stand there fiddling about forever trying to get it clean. Overall I do recommend this product, its a very advanced bit of kit. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
