On opening this product I was a little surprised it was battery operated. That said I was quite impressed with the results given. Although it was not as close as you would get from a razor for maintaining smooth legs for the summer it was fab. It's something which takes no time at all to use and get results quick which is what you need during the summer months. For the price I would definitely recommend this product although it would be nice to have the option to use a power lead to increase its effectiveness as I can't see the batteries lasting very long . I was lucky enough to get to try the Braun Lady Shaver LS5100 free from Braun, and I have to say that this might have converted me.
Now the weather is getting better, I'm getting my legs out more which means needing to have fuzz free pins! I first tried my Lady Shaver on around ten days worth of growth and found it to be relatively hassle free. I had to go over the same area a couple of times, but this razor doesn't create much friction so it was OK. A little time consuming, but reduces the risk of injury as I'm prone to cutting myself with a normal razor when I'm in a hurry. It's easy to use, and you can easily switch between settings for legs and body. The springy head and guard make it a nice smooth shave over the contours of your legs and underarms, and the shape of the product means that it's easy to hold (I also love the fact it's feminine looking without being PINK!)
Following the initial shave, using it every couple of days keeps my legs silky smooth and doesn't irritate as much as using a normal razor in the shower.
The battery operation means that it is easily portable and you don't have to worry about packing lots of chargers (great for holidays!). The only downside is that it is a little more time consuming than regular wet shaving, but I didn't cut myself like I usually do, so that's got to be a bonus! Plus I don't get the horrid razor burn which I do with regular saving, so it's comfortable and kinder to my skin [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I was lucky enough to be sent the Braun Lady Shaver LS5100 for free to review. It's taken me a while to get around to trying it, I usually have a quick shave in the shower with a razor so had to remember *not* to do that so I was hairy enough!
I tried out the leg shaving mode of the shaver, with the OptiShave attachment in place. My biggest bug bear of my usual razors is that I find it easy to cut myself - especially if I am in a hurry (which is always with two young children!). I found that this wasn't an issue with the Lady Shaver. The design means that you really can't cut your skin, even when doing those tricky areas like backs of knees and ankles. The shaver glides easily over lumps and bumps.
I found that I had to make several passes over the same patch to cut all of the hairs - and I still managed to miss a few on closer inspection a few hours later. My legs looked hair free but still felt a little prickly to the touch. Fine if you just want to wear a short skirt but it would bug me in the long run - maybe I'm just used to the really close shave I get with a wet razor?
I will use this shaver again, almost definitely. I want to try out the underarm function and I feel that it'll be handy to keep in my bedroom for quick touch ups or for when I've not had time to have a wet shave in the shower. Thank you for the opportunity to try it out, Braun! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I already have a braun silk epil epilator so was excited to try this braun silk epil ladyshaver for free from braun. My epilator is really awkward to use as it has a cable and I don't have a socket in my bathroom so I have to run an extension cable & adaptor into my bathroom! So the fact that the braun lady shaver LS5100 is battery powered is a big plus, I can just use rechargeable batteries & there are no issues with cables/adaptors or waiting for it to charge. The shaver actually comes with batteries ready to use so you can use them straight away.
The shaver is quite elongated which makes it easy to hold. It comes with an optishave attachment which is supposed to give a closer shave.
I first tried using it on my legs, I usually epilate but occasionally shave either using a regular razor or the shaver head on my epilator. I started using the optishave attachment but it didn't seem to be shaving closely at all so I removed it & that actually seemed to work better. The instructions say to hold the skin taught which I did but it still didn't really give a very close shave, I also had to press into my skin really hard with the optishave & regular attachment & it took a long longer than I was expecting since I had to keep going over each area. However it manoeuvred around my leg (knee & back of my knee) easily. It's also quite quiet, much quieter than other epilators/shavers I have used. One of the biggest negatives was that despite the instructions saying it was safer to skin, I ended up with a cut on my ankle. Also it really doesn't give a close shave, I don't know if I would be happy shaving with this then baring my legs in a skirt, it would probably do in a pinch if I was going swimming or my legs were driving me mad & I wanted to remove the hair quicker than my epilator.
- Battery powered
- Easy to hold
- Manoeuvres around knee easily
- Doesn't give close shave
- Can cut skin if not pulled taught, which is difficult on some areas such as ankles
- Takes a long time [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I was sent the Lady Shaver LS5100 free from Braun a few weeks ago now and I finally feel that I've had enough time to properly try it out. Firstly I would like to say that I am currently 38 weeks pregnant and during my pregnancy it became gradually more and more difficult to ensure that my hairy legs were trimmed and tamed. Bending is difficult and trying to use a wet razor in the shower is terrifying as my balance is waaaaay off. So being able to review this product has been a bit of a saviour for me in the summer months. I have shed my 'winter legs' and have been able to get my (slightly swollen) pins out again. I have actually tried the shaver/trimmer all over and I am generally very pleased with the results. Legs: Easy to manage and quick, I was able to do both legs in less than 10 minutes even with all the awkward twisting. I found I had a fairly smooth result for such a quick effort and no preparation was required and a quick easy clean of the device is all that is needed after. It took a good half a week before the regrowth was visible and it was super easy to top up any strays in between. The hair on my legs is fairly course so I imagine the razor will be even more effective on finer or lighter hairs. On a side note I never bothered with the Optishave attachment. Under arms: I found underarms a little more tricky, I had to go over them a few times to get a close enough shave which took a bit more time than was ideal. But the results were okay, with the shave lasting a few days before needing topping up again. Bikini zone: I think I actually found this the most effective of all the uses of the shaver. It had a really close trim and was really easy even in my delicate state. With some other trimmers I've found they can nip the skin but this was not a problem at all with this shaver so I was very happy. Battery life, maintenance and use: Is still going strong after 6 or 7 uses in the last few weeks so I really can't complain about that. It is also super easy to clean using the brushes provided and some water from the tap.I also didn't find it too noisy, as it was definitely comparable to other hair removal devices on the market. On a side note, I will say that if you are used to using a wet razor or hair removal cream and the smoothness you get from that is a top priority for you then an electric shaver (epilator or waxing for that matter!) simply isn't going to appeal to you. I found that the Lady Shaver LS5100 did leave me feeling fairly smooth and certainly not prickly at all, but it did not leave that smooth feeling the 'moisturising strips' on a wet razor leave. This can, of course, be largely be rectified with a bit of smoothing oil or moisturiser after you have shaved though. This is a fact with all electric shavers which is why I have not deducted from my rating. Overall I am really pleased with this shaver and plan on using it regularly in the future. It was so good on my legs and bikini zone that I want to give it 5* even is it isn't quite as convenient on the under arms. Thanks so much! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
#Bzzagent #Getitfree #braun #shaver #silkepil #summer I sooo love using this and my girl is 13 years old uses it too. Love the pink, leaves skin with no irritation, smooth and hair free. will buy in future, told 5 my friends and my 2 sisters about this, great box and love how smooth the shaver is to hold.
batteries included was fab [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
The Braun shaver comes in a neat pack with all its attachments and battery, the shaver is neither light or heavy to handle and it looks a good piece. I tried the shaver just once on my arms and legs and it has done a good job, I didn't had to go again and again on the same spot to remove my hair and it moves smooth on the skin. I had to stretch my skin to have a close go on and without it the hair looks like how it is after few days of shave but without the needle like prickliness. So back to the shaver, the only draw back of the shaver is the noise it makes and other than that I don't seem to have any other draw backs. Lastly with all I have written the only reason I have given it a 4/5 it because I don't see anything extra or special than any other leading brand shaver but having said that I would still buy this product because I really like and trust Braun products. I'd had a Braun shaver (an add on as part of an epilator) many years ago and I absolutely loved it, so my expectations were definitely raised going into this.
First up the box is quite attractive. Sleek and black; it also makes it very clear what you are going to get inside the box. Upon opening the box everything is well wrapped and separated. The accompanying book makes it clear how to use the shaver, and how to set it up. The set up is very very easy. Simply place the batteries in and attach whichever shaver head is more appropriate for the hair length that you'll be removing.
After being told I was receiving the shaver for free, I purposely left my legs unshaved in anticipation. After the quick set up I got around to the defuzzing. First up it's not a wet/dry shaver, which I must admit I found a little disappointing, but not a deal breaker. I suppose it's actually quite handy when you're in a rush actually! I was a little more disappointed in it being a battery only shaver, as I find they run out of juice farily quickly.
I started by using the opti-shave attachment, but I wasn't getting a very close shave. So i removed the attachment (as it suggests in the manual for longer hair) and found that it did improve the closeness of the shave a small amount. However I spent around 20 minutes attempting to get a close shave on my leg (yes, just the one leg!), or at least a shave where it actually felt like I'd shaved, and I couldn't.
Not to be deterred by one small setback I also decided to try my underarms and bikini line while I was at it. I had similar problems with my underarms as I did with my legs. I just couldn't get a close enough shave and could actually still visible see the stubble. My bikini line was slightly better. I used the shaver alone as well as with the bikini trimmer attachment, and the results felt slightly smoother than my legs had done. I did however find myself with such an annoying amount of stubble that I later went and reshaved all of the areas I'd already been over with a disposable razor!
Overall the Braun Lady Shaver LS5100 definitely has some up-points. It's easy to assemble and use. My bad experience won't put me off Braun products as I love their epilators (and the shaver that came with my previous one was amazing), however for me, this shaver just doesn't live up to expectations. Ive never used an electric shaver before, so I was excited to try the Braun Lady Shaver. My first impression was smart packaging, I liked the name Silk-epil- to be honest I originally thought it was an epilator because of the name.
I like the colour scheme, pink and purple, very girly!
I like that it comes with its own batteries and a brush to clean it with, it also contains two attachments - one for bikini line and one called optishave which is designed to make the shave more comfortable, they are in a matching purple colour.
Using the lady shaver was really simple. Just pop the batteries in, turn on and go.
Im used to a really close shave as I shave my legs in the shower or I use hair removal cream. The lady shaver did not give me the close shave that I am used to. I had to press quite hard on my skin and go over the same area of my legs to get it as close as I wanted - but it still feels a bit stubbly so I will have to go over it with a razor. For this reason I wouldn't recommend this product for your legs. Also because I used it on dry skin before I had a shower, it is more messy than I am used to, than just shaving in the shower or rinsing in shower cream away.
What I liked about the lady shaver is that for bikini line this is quite good, with razors and creams you can get a rash when the hair grows back -but as this trims the hair above the skin line, therefore I think the lady shaver is a much better option for bikini lines. So I received my Braun Lady Shaver from Braun, I was very excited, I had never used a lady shaver before; I'm more of a 'shave in the shower' type of girl. When it arrived I was impressed with how it looked in the packaging, also not to much packaging which I think is important. I don't like buying a new product and then having to throw away a ton of packaging. Also comes with batteries which is very handy so you don't have to go rummaging through your cupboards to try it out. It is probably worth mentioning that at first I thought there had been a mix up and I had been sent an Epilator, I wasn't overly happy about this since I am a bit of a wimp and didn't want an epilator. This is probably because it had the words 'Silk-Epil' written on the box and I am easily confused, either way that prevented me from trying it out for a week until I was corrected by a friend of mine (who was really jealous of my freebie).
When I did get round to trying it it felt a bit strange, like I said, I am used to shaving in the shower, it is weird to get into the habit of shaving and then going in the shower. There was nothing glaringly obvious to say I could get it wet and so I didn't want to test that out.
The Braun Lady Shaver comes with lots of attachments to use in different places of the body such as your legs and bikini area. I gave all of these and try, they were easy to attach and unattach and most importantly very easy to clean with the little brush that comes with it.
In my experience the lady shaver removed some of the hair from my legs, its especially good for the area on the back of your thighs which tends to get missed (by me at least) but did not leave them with the silky smooth feel of a razor. I think it would be good to use if you're in a hurry but not particularly good for a hot date. Around the bikini area I would say my experience is much the same, the Lady shaver works well for a quick trim up before going swimming but certainly not the same as a razor or waxing. So all in all I would say this product works but it depends on what you are looking for. I gave this product to my friend (obviously I cleaned it first), she does a lot of camping holidays and she says it was fab for that sort of activity. I think I would buy this sort of product if I was going on holiday and I needed something small, easy to use and practical but I don't think I would use this every day.
