I'd had a Braun shaver (an add on as part of an epilator) many years ago and I absolutely loved it, so my expectations were definitely raised going into this.
First up the box is quite attractive. Sleek and black; it also makes it very clear what you are going to get inside the box. Upon opening the box everything is well wrapped and separated. The accompanying book makes it clear how to use the shaver, and how to set it up. The set up is very very easy. Simply place the batteries in and attach whichever shaver head is more appropriate for the hair length that you'll be removing.
After being told I was receiving the shaver for free, I purposely left my legs unshaved in anticipation. After the quick set up I got around to the defuzzing. First up it's not a wet/dry shaver, which I must admit I found a little disappointing, but not a deal breaker. I suppose it's actually quite handy when you're in a rush actually! I was a little more disappointed in it being a battery only shaver, as I find they run out of juice farily quickly.
I started by using the opti-shave attachment, but I wasn't getting a very close shave. So i removed the attachment (as it suggests in the manual for longer hair) and found that it did improve the closeness of the shave a small amount. However I spent around 20 minutes attempting to get a close shave on my leg (yes, just the one leg!), or at least a shave where it actually felt like I'd shaved, and I couldn't.
Not to be deterred by one small setback I also decided to try my underarms and bikini line while I was at it. I had similar problems with my underarms as I did with my legs. I just couldn't get a close enough shave and could actually still visible see the stubble. My bikini line was slightly better. I used the shaver alone as well as with the bikini trimmer attachment, and the results felt slightly smoother than my legs had done. I did however find myself with such an annoying amount of stubble that I later went and reshaved all of the areas I'd already been over with a disposable razor!
Overall the Braun Lady Shaver LS5100 definitely has some up-points. It's easy to assemble and use. My bad experience won't put me off Braun products as I love their epilators (and the shaver that came with my previous one was amazing), however for me, this shaver just doesn't live up to expectations. I got the Braun lady shaver free from Braun to try out. When it arrived I thought it looked good and likes the packaging. The battery compartment is quite hard to get on an off and you feel like it's going to break but you do need to give it quite a tug and push to be able to unattach and attach it. I'm not sure whether this makes it able to be used in the shower or not, I haven't read that in the instructions which could be a reason it's such a snug fit.
I decided to try it without any attachments first on my legs. I did as I would do with any electric shaver and pulled the skin taught and it was a very comfortable shave. there was no nicks or pulling or any pain from using the product. I did find however I had to go over the same area a number of times to get all of the hairs and go in lots of different directions. This was definitely more time-consuming than using a standard razor and shaving gel. However the end result- my legs did feel smooth and I was pleased.
I used it on my underarms, with the same effect. I needed to go over the area a number of times in different directions to get rid of all of the little hairs that were there. But the end result was smooth skin and it was a comfortable shave with no soreness left afterwards
The major downside of the product is the noise. When I first switched it on it actually made me jump. It is ridiculously noisy for the size of the product and I'm not sure why it needs to be that noisy
Would I recommend it? Yes I would. Probably to people that don't like using wet shaving razors and maybe younger girls from a safety point of view as this product would be ideal. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
When my free sample Braun Lady Shaver LS5100 arrived in the post I was quite excited. Traditionally I'm used to a close shave using a razor and gel but was eager to try this.
The packaging is nice, great that batteries come in the box so you can use it straight away. Also in the box are two pink attachments and a cleaning brush. The box also shows that you can wash the head under the tap for easy cleaning. The battery compartment is also nicely marked so no putting batteries in and having to change them round until it works!
So I tried this on my legs first. It took a few attempts and I had to press quite hard to get a good shave. The head does push in and angle so that going over bony knees was fine and I didn't find it painful. Not as close a shave as a razor and gel but not too bad.
Then I tried an underarm, turned the switch under the head from legs to underarms and started, what a mistake! First go and ow!! It really pulled, so I tried again pulling the skin tight and gently moving the Shaver but again it really pinched. Not one for painful underarms I relegated it to the box and used my trusty razor instead.
Overall, if you need a quick tidy up or suddenly decide to wear a dress but don't have time to get through the shower and shave with gel, this will do the trick, but don't expect as close a shave. I won't be changing my routine but will be useful to have this incase of hair emergencies ;) [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Electric shavers aren't what I would usually use, but when Braun offered to send me one to try I thought I'd give it a go.
Straight away I gave shaving my legs a go, and the razor glided lovely over my stubble, and made my legs lovely and smooth. The only down side was that I got a slight rash, I don't know if this was because I'm not used to using these razors or not, other than that I'm more than happy with a quick easy shave and looking forward to trying it out on other areas [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
The Braun Lady Shaver LS5100 is a fantastic product which I received for free from Braun to try out and write a review.I have had a few lady shavers before this one and I can honestly say this is one of the better ones. The shaver is easy to handle and fits nicely in the hand. Although I didn't use it in the shower, it is fully washable. The shaver comes with a bikini trimming attachment and a optishave attachment.I found the shaver glided over my legs and didn't drag like previous shavers have. It wasn't a completely smooth shave but was close enough. I'm yet to come across a lady shave that shaves as smooth as a razor. The rounded head makes shaving underarms easier as it fits to the contour of the armpit.I was very pleased with the Braun Lady shaver LS5100 and would definitely recommend it to other people. It is a well made product and does exactly as it says on the box. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I have already given a review of this but I am so impressed, in a really short time it has stopped all rashes and irritation and also my ingrown hairs are looking so much better and I really do put it down to how good the shaver is! If anyone is thinking of trying it they really should. It is so easy to clean and store. The design makes it easy and comfortable to hold. Everything about it is perfect! I received the Braun Lady Shaver LS5100 free from Braun to trial which I was very pleased aboutKnowing that I was going to receive this, I thought I may as well let my hair on my legs and arms and bikini grow like a yeti as I wanted to give a good honest reviewAs soon as I received this it was skin out, batteries inserted into the Braun LS5100 Shaver and good to go, I have to say that with my legs and I am olive skinned and have dark hair which is tougher then blonde hair and I did have to go over my legs twice with these to get a smooth hair free result and esp had to concentrate around the knee areas, however once I had done that my legs felt as smooth as silk so I was esp pleasedMy arms and bikini area, was much easier to do and where with a razor in these areas I get a rash, using the Braun LS5100 I had no rash and only had to use once to get a smooth finish. I loved the product and it was pretty and girly I just wish it had a option so you could charge it as well as use batteries if required, as I have to shave every day and if I am having to so could be expensive in terms of batteries etc but other then that would certainly give the thumbs up [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I received a Braun Silk Epil Lady Shaver Ls5100 to test out and keep (for free!) and I have been using it for a few weeks now.
It arrives in a stylish black box, looking all business. there is plenty of information on the sides and back of the box but the front is left fairly clear and attractive with only essential information and product pictures. if I saw this product box in a shop it is one I would pick up.
inside the box you find a pink shaver, two plastic attachments, a cleaning brush, some batteries and an instruction/maintenance booklet. I found it a little annoying to have to unwrap each individual thing in the box but once you are in, it is really easy to understand the instruction leaflet and to insert the batteries.
using the device is straight forward, there is a big purple and white button on the front that you press and slide up to switch it on, and brace yourself for the noise! it really does buzz! this is not a discreet shaver, that you could use quickly at the gym or wherever for an emergency shave before a night out, this is a strictly in the privacy of you own home shaver. it is loud.
there are two cutting surfaces, a traditional shaving foil and a floating trimmer. these work together because the trimmer floats over the surface of your skin (like wheel suspension on a car) and it trims the hairs, especially any longer ones, then the shaving foil shaves down the remaining stubble leaving in a closer and smoother result. its a nice feature that this surfaces are "floating" as it means that they conform to the contours of you body as you go, so difficult area such as knees become less difficult. you can get them done with less passes. you should note though that the trimmer only floats when the shaver is set to leg mode. this mode is selected by a sliding purple button just below the shaving head, on the front. there is a picture of legs on the right and a bikini on the left. when the button is in the left position the trimmer is locked in place (not floating) so that it can be used as a precision trimmer to style hair in bikini area. one of the plastic attachments is also for this purpose, and looks a little like a comb that clips easily over the shaving head. locking the trimmer head is useful for creating straight lines if thats what you desire and the attachment would help you to achieve an even overall length if you aim was to trim and not to shave. so useful features for some people, not features I personally can comment on as I prefer to fully shave, which I can tell you this device did very well, although a little awkward until I got the hang of using a new device!
the other plastic attachment is the opti-shave attachment, and personally I found no benefit to it. it is meant to aid you in achieving the correct shaving angles to maintain contact of both cutting surfaces at all times, for optimum performance, but honestly i found it cumbersome and it didnt really improve the shave at all, so i stopped using it. it may be useful for someone who has never used an electric shaver before.
after use you can brush any hair off of the trimmers and leave it like that or you can wash it all under the tap if you want to. it all comes a part easily and goes together again without any effort. just remember if you do wash it after use, you'll need to apply vaseline to the cutters inside to keep them in tip top condition afterwards (its all shown in the booklet and very easy).
over all I can say that the performance of this shaver is what i would expect. it does give relatively smooth results when compared to other electric shavers, but no electric shaver gets as close as a real razor. its very intuitive to use and apart from the maintenance part i wouldn't have needed the manual at all. it fits nicely in my hand (which are fairly small and weak! lol) and does the job. I dont like the noise or the colour but those thins are minor annoyances . the attachments are of no use to me personally but I see what purpose they have and why they are there. I cant say i would definitely buy this shaver over others i have tried, but i cant say that i wouldnt either. its good, not great. it reliably does the job, albeit noisily, so if thats all you want, no bells and whistles, then maybe this is one for you. Out the box this little lady shaver looks pretty neat. Really nice size, light, easy features (on/off and legs/bikini) and a couple of head attachments.I had a nice shot shower then prepped my legs with some moisturiser. One stroke with the device with no attachments did the job of shortening the hair but my leg was far from smooth. I continued to do one of my legs with no attachment and it took some time to get my hair to a stage I was satisfied with. For my other leg I used the optishave attachment but sadly didn't find and difference in the results! When I removed the head to clean the hair off it I noticed that the foil cover of the blades had been very slightly damaged during my shave. Considering this was literally the first time I had used it I'm not impressed with the quality of the head. The rest of the device and the other attachments seem very sturdy though.I found that I had no razor burn which is a big plus for me, but for the time it took to get the same results as my manual razor, I think I shall stick with manual for now [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
The second time I used braun ladyshaver LS5100 I tried using the bikini attachment. Personally for me it cuts the hair quite long so I removed the attachment & just used the usual head. The lack of cable makes it much easier to use on the bikini area which is a plus, my epilator needs to be plugged in while using which is why I was so happy to receive this lady shaver for free from braun. The head & shape of the shaver seem like they are more designed to be used on the legs than bikini area as the 'handle' is a bit long. The other issues I had were similar to when I used it on my legs, it doesn't give a close shave no matter how much I pulled the skin taught, the shaver attachment on my epilator is much closer. Also I cut myself as I did on my legs. As a positive it is quiet, it's also reasonably priced! I think I will use this when I don't want to plug in my epilator for touch ups but it's just not a close enough shave to replace my current model.
- No cable/battery powered - a very big plus
- Well priced
- Bikini attachment cuts hair very long- not sure what the purpose of this is
- Longer handle & shape of head more difficult to use on bikini area & probably underarms
- Doesn't give a close shave
- Easy to cut skin [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
