Opal

Bubble Hand Sanitiser

Designed by Edwind Tan, Yi Jing Ho, John Marie Tan, Xixian Gui

About the project.
COVID-19 has brought about many unwelcomed changes, a new normal to our everyday life that is filled with restrictions. Opal is a hand sanitizer inspired by this negative turn of events, drawing inspiration from the doom and gloom of covid-19, using it as a spark for positive experiences.

Opal uses a Passive Infrared (PIR) sensor that detects the users’ hand before dispensing a stream of disinfecting bubbles. Sanitizing no longer needs to be another extra task in your day, but a magical moment shared with those around you. Opal’s form is understated yet welcoming, with its wide and tilted opening inviting people to interact with it. Opal can be placed on a platform or wall mounted to fit a variety of contexts.

Opal’s uses a sanitizing solution that leaves minimal residue on the hand whilst preserving its ability to bubble. It consists of these chemicals that are proven to be safe and non-toxic, benzalkonium chloride, glycerine, amino acid, and amine oxide.
