FAQs

Braun Series 9 FAQs

What's the difference between foil and rotary shavers?
Rotary shavers are designed to work with cyclical movements while Braun foil shavers are designed to work with efficient sideways movements on the skin giving perfect control and precision. The foils protect the skin from irritation and are specifically designed to deliver the most thorough and comfortable shave from Braun.

Do you have any recommendation on how to shave with an electric foil shaver?
We recommend that you shave before you take a shower. Stretch the skin and shave against the direction of beard growth. At all times, hold the shaver at a right angle (90°) to your skin. Keep the pressure even to achieve the most thorough and comfortable shave from Braun. To trim sideburns, moustache or beard, Series 9 features an intergrated precision trimmer with superior cutting performance. In order to use this comfortable and precise tool, simply slide the trimmer upwards.

How do I clean my shaver?
The new Braun Series 9 cc shavers feature the Braun Automatic Clean&Charge Station, proven to clean more hygienically than tap water. The 5-action Clean&Charge Station: automatically cleans, charges, lubricates, selects cleaning program and dries at the touch of a button for lasting cutting efficiency. All Series 9 shavers are also waterproof up to 5m for full washability.

How often do I need to change the shaver head?
We recommend replacing all cutter parts every 18 months.
To maintain optimal performance, we included a replacement part indicator in the display to ensure that you know when to exchange the cutter parts.

Does the battery have a memory effect as we know it from cell phones or laptops?
No, Series 9 shavers use a Li-ion battery which has no memory effect. You can recharge it whenever you want and it has a low self-discharge rate (vs. NiMh batteries). Li-Ion batteries are therefore the most powerful and long-lasting battery available for Braun shavers.

Where is Series 9 shaver manufactured?
Like all Braun premium shavers, Series 9 is designed, engineered, and manufactured in Germany to ensure the very best build quality and reliability. All of our shavers are designed and tested to last at least 7 years, giving you the peace of mind that you can continue to enjoy the unique Series 9 experience for a very long time.

Nice and Easy!

Disclaimer: I do not work for Braun or any associates but I did receive this product on a free trial basis from them. The opinions I give are honest, unbiased and my own! I hate to shave! I normally find shaving a chore and so I tend to put it off as long as I can get away with before my Mrs starts to complain. What's more, after I have shaved there is normally complaints of missed patches and my skin always flares up into an uncomfortable red mess! To be honest I just thought I was bad at it! That is until I tried the Braun Series 9 9240's sent to me from Braun to trial for free. I was actually throughly impressed with this shaver; from the quick charge, stylish no fuss design to the final results it all just works! The unit took less than an hour to fully charge and according to the information booklet should last around 50ish mins on constant go! That's great as it means I only have to remember to charge it about once a month! Furthermore, it's ergonomic design incorporates style while being easy to use and is clear enough that you can get straight to shaving without having to worry what button does what or how to turn it on! Everything is clearly marked if your in wet or dry shave mode, on/off power and battery level. The razor feels good to hold and the weight is not to heavy! The blades move as you shave to conform to your face shape and give a close and comfortable result! While not as close as a manual shave could be the results are very satisfactory that even my Mrs was happy! It took me less time than normal and my skin didn't react the next day from irratation! So overall I'm very chuffed with this razor! On the negative side of things, I still find the retail prize to be a little high. I am not sure if I would be willing to spend out that kind of money when I can buy much much cheaper manual razors and get a cleaner result with a little more patience and effort. For, this reason I have not awarded full stars. However, for ease and simplicity of use I would rate it top marks along with its stylish design! I will be continuing to use this a good long while! Initially Great

I thought when first using the razor that it was pretty darn good, I don't normally use an electric razor. The Braun Series 9 charges so so quickly, quite unbelievably so in fact. On the front of my face the razor shaved really well, not leaving my skin dry or tight which was great. It didn't seem to get right into the crease of my mouth but that may have been me. Where it seemed to be quite a let down was my neck and under my chin where the skin is much softer in comparison. It didn't really shave much away at all. I tried various angles but still ended up back with we normal wet razor to finish the job. I'm going to persevere and hopefully as time goes on it may well do better. Fingers crossed. Braun series 9 9240s review

Previous to receiving the 9240s i had an older Braun shaver (i believe it was series 3). This is definitely an improvement. In the shower, it gives a clean close shave and i felt it got in to all the contours if my face alot easier than my previous shaver. I also tested the other half of my face when dry, no shaving cream involved. Again i was inpressed with the result. I don't have much facial hair so i cannot say how it performs on thicker and more dense stubble. The only reason i rated 4 stars was that the dry half of my face was left ever so slightly red and mildly itchy, but i do have quite sensitive skin and have yet to find a shaver that has not done the same. Overall, i am impressed. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Not award winning for me, but a great show!

So here it is, one of the worlds best electric shavers. Free! Everyone loves free, but there's a lot of convincing to do as for the last 20 years I have used a cut throat razor as my shaving tool of choice. I have tried electric shavers in the past and didn't like how it made my skin feel, but this is a well built shaver that deserves a fair try.My first try is from the picture to this review. It's several days of growth and sadly I was expecting to be clean shaved. It's half shaved in the picture and it did my cheeks well, although trying to precisely do the sideburns was fairly tricky to get a good edge. I really struggled with under the jawline and it left patches of hair that just wouldn't cut. Sadly this meant I had to re-shave with my razor, so didn't start well.My second attempt was with less growth, maybe 3-4 days and it was a noticeable improvement, but not perfect. It did leave me having to shave manually again, much to my annoyance. I left it for 3-4 days a few more times and even tried taking it into the shower.Note: at this point I must point out that this was weird, to wet shave. I just don't get it, and it's much more of a pain to clean the foil and razor after a wet shave. I just don't get this as a selling point! So, at this point we are halfway into the thirty day trial. So far, disappointing, especially for the RRP of this device. But, moving on....For the next week I shave every other day, and I must admit I'm happy with the result. There's no noticeable stray hairs it can't cut and certainly seems to prefer this. Ok so it doesn't feel as smooth as it could be but the end result was a very quick and easy shave, without cuts. For the last half a week I've been shaving daily. I seem to have fairly sensitive skin as it left my neck feeling rashy, and needing moisuriser. This is not something I need with a wet shave, but for this trial it was worth doing.Would I personally buy this shaver? No. I don't shave daily and tend to leave it several days at a time. For that reason it's not one for me. If I shaved daily then yes I would certainly consider it, the wide head makes light work of the job and certainly gave a nice feel when shaving regularly.Pro's:Quick and easyReally long battery life between charges (I haven't charged it all month)Large head Cons:Poor at fine detail trimmingThumb naturally rests on one of the buttonsSo there we have it, I may not be the best person to rate, but I did like the shave. If only it was better with more growth under the jaw then I would be singing from the treetops as it's a lot less effort than wet shaving. But, sadly, it's close but no cigar. It's still a study machine that would be a great investment for some. I have given it 4 stars as for an everyday or every other day shaver it would be perfect. It just doesn't do well after 4 days of growth and has poor edging skills. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

An excellent shave

I was a little apprehensive at first as i've tried several shavers in the past, but never found a good one. This shaver does an excellent job, even on tricky areas. It doesn't nip hairs and most importantly, it doesn't irritate. The charge time is excellent and comes with a hard case which is useful for travelling.I highly recommend this to anyone buying a shaver for the first time, or wanting an upgrade. Design... look and feel

I think that this shaver is very well designed. I have been cutting my own hair first over 4 years now and added to my bag of tools this shaver is right up there in terms of comfortability to use. It sits in the hand nicely and the rubberized texture makes it easy to hold and control. I wouldn't say that I'm a super fan of the colour of the shaver but that is a very insignificant aspect to me. If I was to mange a suggestion I would say you maybe allow for a wider range of colour options. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

A close shave or a load of Buzz?

I received this product from Braun as a Trial / Test Product.I purchased a Braun 3 Series shaver a couple of years ago and this was advertised as a wet/dry shaver but unfortunately I was never drawn away from razor shaving. When I got the email for a trial on this I was pretty excited to see what a more expensive and more modern technology shaver would provide.I was very impressed when I first opened the box; the design of the product is very beautiful it has a great light feeling in the hand and the black sleek modern design makes it look very classy.Like most shavers it uses a 2 pin charger, once plugged in it sits very nicely into its own cradle and took up little room on the shelf. I was shocked how fast it actually charges to full which was within an hour or 2 so I was able to use it pretty quickly. The display for the battery is a nice looking blue LED display which continues the modern feel to the shaver; however after 3 uses of the shaver you do need to charge it again so the battery seems small. The shave itself is not as close as I would have liked (compared to a razor shave), in fact if you try using the shaver after a few days growth you might be in for a long and irritating trip to the bathroom. I have researched quite a bit into dry shaving and there does seem to be lots of techniques to it which helps improve the shave so I have found this interesting to experiment with. I found it best if you shave every day as it deals with short stubble much easier.I mostly used it for dry shaving as trying to shave in the shower is difficult as you cannot see if you missed bits so not quite sure on the advantage of this. I found using gel a bit strange as I might as well have just reached for my razer, but the shaver handled this well and was able to shave with no irritation. The trimmer on the back works pretty well but again didn’t feel that it gave the close shave to give you the clean lines that you want to see. It works pretty well to trim a beard or a few days growth if you don’t want to shave fully. The shaver is extremely easy to clean and collects most of the hair when shaving which is brilliant if like me you normally create a hairy mess when razer shaving.Overall the Braun 9240 is a very good looking product but for me the overall price would be a turn off however for someone that is an avid dry shaver this is a step above the rest. Personally the time it takes and the quality of shave for me didn’t live up to expectations but I will continue with my different techniques but currently my razer rules the bathroom. A world of cutting power in your hand

OK so what does someone with a full beard want or need with an electric razor? Not much normally, however for certain job roles i have to play its essential i have to shave off the beard. Normally this would be a quick trim with an electric trimmer then a wet shave, not this time after getting the new Braun Series 9 through the door.First look from the packaging give the imprssion of a top market elite shaver, the dark colours used on the box only added to the quality look of the dark coloured shaver rather than hiding it.opening the box you have everything you need withou too much unessisary packaging and wrapping. The first feel of the razor in my hand gave a clear message of business, solid build quality yet light and comfortably contoured to grasp giving a great feeling of control The battery was completely flat so before using i had to give it a charge, found an adapter (2 pin plug supplied only) and plugged it in. I was suprised at how quickly it came up to full power with it only being on charge for 30 minutes. There is a handy little trimmer on the back which can be used to square off side burns or trim the edges of a mustache, however i wanted it to takle a full beard, i uxtened thetrimmer out and go to chopping, for how small the blade was, i was pleasantly suprised at the cutting power, yes this took longer than a purpose built beard trimmer and really this isnt meant to trim a full beard, yet it coped well with a little patience. The main blades can be put on to dry mode (stops the head pivoting giving a more controled pressure on your face) or wet mode which allows the head to pivot as you slid along your stubble I used a side each of my face to test each cut, the wet mode was the slightly better cut taking less time to cut over the hairs and more comfortable with less friction on the skin, however I prefered the head to be static so really.... it is an unnecessary feature to the razor I had shaved the evening before call time, give the redness time to settle after removing a full beard, then quickly in the morning a quick once over with the Braun gave me a really close shave that none of my previous electric shavers have managed to doover all i am very impressed withthe Braun series 9 and i was ready for call time with zero stubble in sight [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

You get what you pay for.

For the past few years I’ve been using a quality shaver and have been really satisfied with it, that was until I tried the Braun Series 9 9240s, which I have used for the past few days, the Braun completely outperforms my old one. As soon as I held it I was impressed, it’s tactile, light, easy to hold in the shower, and beautifully styled. With the 4 separate blades it shaves absolutely superbly, and coped happily when I skipped a day, without pulling too much. It was also powerful enough to shave me quickly which helped lessen skin irritation. The head can lock into several positions if you wish, although I found it worked perfectly for me in the free floating position, easily getting into hard to shave areas such as under the nose. I tried it for a wet shave and it left my face as smooth as a baby’s you know what, perfect for a night out, it also performs brilliantly for a dry shave as well. The trimmer works well without having to put the shaver into odd positions to get at the hair. If you take pride in your grooming this is a no gimmicks piece of gear, and even at the top price end of a competitive market, worth the investment. One minor niggle is that even though it has a hard travel case I would still like to have a protective blade cover for when it’s in the bathroom cabinet.
