FAQs

Braun Series 5 FAQs

What's the difference between foil and rotary shavers?
Rotary shavers use cyclical movements while Braun foil shavers are designed to work with efficient sideways movements giving you perfect control and precision. The foils protect skin from irritation and are specifically designed to deliver a supremely thorough and comfortable shave from Braun.

What's the difference between the different Series 5 models?
The 5090cc model has high-quality metal surfaces and the most advanced display of all the Braun Series 5 shavers: a precise 5-level battery status indicator with low charge warning as well as a travel lock and hygiene indicator. The 5090cc also features the advanced Intelligent Clean&Charge Station from Braun: it cleans, charges, lubricates and selects a cleaning programme at the touch of a button - so your shaver feels new, every day. For more information about the Series 5 range, please consult the Series 5 Model overview.

Why do I need a Clean&Charge Station when I can clean my Series 5 shaver under tap water?
Our tests show that cleaning your shaver with a Clean&Charge Station is significantly more hygienic than cleaning it under the tap. It's also more convenient: at the touch of a button your shaver is automatically cleaned, charged and lubricated.

I already have a Cleaning Centre from my previous Braun shaver (Syncro, Activator, 360 etc.). Can I use it with the new Series 5 shaver?
No, the Series 5 marks the introduction of a new generation of shavers with fully revamped technology and can’t be used with previous Cleaning Centres.

Can I buy a solo shaver and upgrade to a Clean&Charge Station later?
No, shaver and Clean&Charge Station are designed to connect during the cleaning procedure. Shavers sold without the Clean&Charge Station don’t have this connection technology.

How often do I need to replace the Clean&Charge refill cartridge?
If you clean your shaver with the Clean&Charge Station twice a week, you will only need to replace the refill cartridge every 2 to 3 months to experience a shaver that feels new, every day. The Save & Subscribe option from Amazon allows you to sign up for regular home delivery and save 10% on the price of the Clean&Charge refill. You don't have to worry about ordering and will always have a Clean&Charge refill available when you need one.

Do you have any recommendations on how to shave using an electric foil shaver?
We recommend shaving before your shower. After a few days without shaving, for example over the weekend, we recommend trimming your stubble before you shave. Stretch your skin and shave against the direction of beard growth. Hold the shaver at right angles (90°) to your skin at all times. In difficult to shave areas, like under the nose, you can use the MultiHeadLock switch to lock the shaver head and manually select one of five available shaver head angles to best suit your needs. Keep pressure even to achieve a thorough and comfortable shave from Braun. Series 5 features an integrated precision trimmer with superior cutting performance for trimming your sideburns, moustache or beard. Simply slide the trimmer upwards to use this comfortable and precise tool.

How often do I need to change the shaver head?
We recommend replacing all cutter parts every 18 months.

Does the battery suffer from a memory effect, like mobile phones or laptops?
No, Series 5 shavers use a Li-ion battery, which does not suffer from the memory effect. You can recharge it whenever you want and it has a low self-discharge rate (vs. NiMh batteries). As a result, Li-Ion batteries are the most powerful and long-lasting batteries for Braun shavers.

Good dry shave razor

I have been using this razor for 2 weeks on a daily basis and find it gives a really good close shave for an electric shaver, the only thing that stops it getting 5 out of 5 is that it does leave my skin a bit dry afterwards maybe a built in moisturiser would solve this and i would be prepared to pay a little bit more for that! All in all a great razor.

Great Electric Shaver with good features

The Braun Series 5 is a great Electric Shaver with good features. When I 1st opened the box I was impressed by the styling and the feel of the shaver. It looks well made and expensive and feels very robust. The shaver is very easy to use and glides across the face cutting to an adequate level. I do suffer with very sensitive skin on my neck and unfortunately I still did by using the Braun Series 5. Would I buy one? Maybe not...

Braun Series 5 Shaver - Not just another electric razor!

I have had my electric shaver (not made by Braun) for a few years now, and I was happy with the results, it made me look presentable! Now, I have received the Braun Series 5 Shaver to try. On opening the box, I was surprised how small the head was, compared to my old rotary electric shaver; it had a good weight to it, which made me think the battery would hold a good long charge. The feel of it in my hand was good, ergonomic with a good grip. I read the instruction book thoroughly, unusual for a guy I know, but that's what I do! And put the shaver on to charge.Ready for my first shave, I was blown away with the feel of power from the Braun and from the quality of the cut. I don't know if my old razor was just old and worn, or of inferior quality; but how did I ever do without this Braun?! A cliché I know, but it was the best electric shave I have ever had.

Solid and robust.

Ok, thought I would give the Braun a fair bit of a work out and review it against my current shaver (Philips Artec, rotary heads and about 4 years old).Likes: It is a fairly substantial shaver, feels really solid (compared to the Philips which seems pretty plastic) Grip is nice and rubbery textured. I like the concept of the push up trimmer on the side, this seemed to be better placed to actually trim the sideburns than my current shave. The shave is reasonable/good,I would add that it similar to my existing shaver.Major like: It seems to be able to pick up the loose hairs. Blokes always seem to get the rouge hairs, one that suddenly appears as if its been secretly been grown and then planted on your neck. The Braun seems to pick these up really easily with the central trimmer bar (compared to the rotary which just pushes them around and then you have to resort to the dreadful trimmer on the Philips or the suspicious plastic razor on the edge of the bath).Dislikes: The plug doesn't stay in the wall... big bulky nasty thing... most other things plug into the shaver unit OK, but this seems to want to keep falling out. It also does sound a bit loud... bit like a sheep sheared, certainly louder than I thought it would be. The trimmer is slightly curved... that seems odd and I must admit.. it didn't trim that well. Also, I travel a lot (every week).. so I am constantly packing things in bags. The bag that this has will not last a long time, it really needs a case. The clip on guard is not really sufficient to protect the shaver (freak toothpaste or aftershave explosions in the washbag etc... yes it has happened).Overall: Its a nice shaver, reasonably good shave, has a few niggling issues (main one being the charger block which is why it lost a star). Would I recommend it, yes, I probably would. Found the shave to be slightly better than my rotary one, so I will keep on using it.Dislikes:

braun series 5 comes alive

this review is for the braun series 5 5030s shaver.ok lets start with the out of the box experience.you get the shaver a charge cord ,user guide and a little bottle of lubricating oil(nice).being a long term user of braun shavers i knew roughly what to expect having used a series 3 wet/dry for the last year.ok the shaver itself has quite alot of rubber and you need it because this thing is powerful and the rubber helps your grip ,in fact ive never experienced such strong vibrations in a shaver.the major selling point of this shaver is the "flex motiontec " head which basically mean you can set it to move and tilt whilst you shave apparently to reach those nooks and crannies more easily.this is the one thing about this razor that wasnt for me , i much prefered locking one of the 5 adjustable angles and using it in a traditional way ( just personal preference).now dont get me wrong this razor is a significant improvement on previous braun shavers ive owned with a very close shave and fast charging time its the best razor ive owned .you can clean the head with water and its waterproof to 5 metres.this shaver would be ideal for me without the swivvel head and im sure a lot of people will enjoy that particular feature.all in all an excellent shaver with added motiontec ( if you like that sort of thing)!!recommended.

Quick shave

I used to be an electric shaver person, but for the last couple of years have been wet shaving, as I could not find an electric shaver that gave me a good close shave. When my new Braun series 5 shaver turned up, i had a weeks growth to shave.I put the shaver on charge and it was ready in an hour.It struggled at first with the weeks growth but once the bulk had been shaved it worked well and left me with a smooth clean shave.I've since been using it daily and it's as close as a wet shave, but a lot quicker to use. The swivelling head is a good feature for the awkward places to reach. I've been using it for 6 days on its original charge and still got loads of power.I would thoroughly recommend this Braun series 5 for anyone fed up with the time and mess that wet shaving takes.

Love It! Best Electric Shaver I have used

I was incredibly excited when my bzz package arrived and was not disappointed, the razor looks premium and substantial. I was a little surprised by the size because my last electric razor was over 15 years ago and was a third of the size in comparison.I charged the product for about 2 hours and tested the noise levels - very loud, which to me is good as suggests it has more power.I usually have a beard and decided that I would tr and shave straight onto the 2 week beard growth, I will admit I was a little nervous but the razor did a great job. It may be wasn't as close as a wet shave but that is probably more down to me not really knowing how to use the product. On further usage the razor did a sterling job on a par with a wet shave and leaves no irritation which is incredible. My only reason for not giving a higher mark is because the dock shown on the box was not actually included with the product which I found a little bit of a shame.

Finally! The Braun Series 5 is the electric shaver I've always wished for...

I've only ever used 1 electric razor before, and I was so underwhelmed I can't even remember how long ago it was or what brand it was. Suffice to say, it did a poor, patchy job of tidying up my facial topiary, and I swore to never abandon wet shaving ever again.Thank goodness, then, that BzzAgent sent me this Braun Series 5 to try - what an eye opener!Well boxed, well designed, and sleek looking, it oozes quality. This is the sort of thing that would make an excellent gift, as it really is a beauty to look at; so much more than just a boring black shaver. It feels great in the hand, and everything is laid out intuitively so you can get cracking with it right away. The instruction booklet is how instructions should be - short, sweet, and easy to follow. It explains how to get started, as well as maintenance to keep it in good nick (everything you will need to do this is included, of course). As I say, in use it's fairly intuitive, and even a shaving luddite like me picked it up in no time. The head pivots around the contours of your face, and there is nothing to it - just push it around your face at a smooth pace, and let the fancy foil head find all the nooks & crannies. You can lock the head in place as well, in a variety of poses, just for that extra bit of precision should you want it.Once you get the hang of it, you can be done in just a few minutes, and you don't even have to be stood over the sink thanks to the way it collects hair in the unit itself - so it's great if, like me, every minute is precious in the mornings!I was expecting my skin to be mildly irritated, simply because it was something new, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that this wasn't the case - my skin was smooth and supple as ever, and after my usual routine of sploshing on a bit of very diluted tea tree oil and letting my skin cool, it felt just as happy and smooth as normal. There's a little edge trimmer built-in, which you simply slide out with your thumb, that allows you to do straight edges (e.g. side burns), so it really is a great all-round unit for doing your whole face and neck. All in all, I'm really impressed with this little blighter!Nigh on impossible to take a "selfie" whilst shaving, so the photo belI've only ever used 1 electric razor before, and I was so underwhelmed I can't even remember how long ago it was or what brand it was. Long life shaver

After receiving the shaver and using it once a day for the last three weeks rather amazingly its still on its first charge. I'm quite amazed at that. But still on to the actual shaver. The main thing really is, does it do a good job? well from normally wet shaving the answer is yes, if you bought and used this braun series 5 you wouldn't be dissapointed. It cuts pretty close, deals with slightly longer hairs with no great pulling feel and you get very little 5 o'clock shadow. The trimmer is good for small area's but if your removing a full beard then i wouldn't bother, it is just a trimmer. The adjustable head works well keeping the cutting edge at the correct angle. It feels like a well made shaver, not to heavy but nice and solid in your hand with a nice grip so yo dont feel like your going to drop it.Could i recommend this to other people? Well the answer is yes to put it simply.Would i have bought this one? Well i might have gone for the wet/dry version coming from more of a wet shave background but i am in no way dissapointed by this one.Would i buy it for someone else? Maybe, they are quite expensive but it certainly feels like it would last a long time.To sum up -Positives, long life on one charge, decent cut, feels nice and sturdy, looks good.Negatives? The instruction manual seems to cover the entire range leaving you a bit confused as to what your shaver will or wont do. Being someone who likes to grow a full beard every now and again i would have preferred a bigger trimmer but i can manage without it as it would have upset the overall design.
