This product is great for beginners

I took part of smartson product test and I bought this for cheaper price. It is very good for beginners. And works good for short body hair too. I used it in a shower and I think that was the best than use it dry

Yes, I recommend this product !

Great but could be better

First impressions from the packaging of my Braun Silk-épil 5 5-511 Wet & Dry Epilator are great. Nicely presented and eye catching design. It is blue and white which is OK although I prefer more feminine colours and would have been happier with pink or purple however, the blue does make it a bit more unisex and I see no reason why a man shouldn’t be just as interested in using it.However, the box is sealed with the instructions inside so information on the box could be better. It says “starter kit” on the box but I couldn’t find any details of just what this meant and what else might be needed or could be added at a later date. Also, I could not find any information about the plug that is supplied. It would be useful to make it clear that it is not a standard 3 pin square plug but actually a 2 pin plug that requires a shaver socket for charging.Inside the box I found that the braun silk epil comes with an instruction booklet, an attachment for beginners or first time users, a charging plug and cleaning brush. The beginners attachment combines epilation with shaving and so shaving gel or foam is also required. It is designed to help you get used to epilation as this is a process that removes the hair from the root and can be a bit painful. The attachment incorporates a twin blade, similar to a razor so care needs to be applied when handling this part. I also noted that there is a list of chemical ingredients incorporated in this part that sound quite alarming so best to read first if you have any allergies or particularly sensitive skin, just in case. It is suggested that this part be replaced after 12 uses but I could find no information as to where a replacement part can be purchasedIf you are a newbie, there are videos on youtube that show you exactly how to use.The 2 pin charger means you have to plug it into an electric shaver socket. Not a problem for me as I have one in my bathroom but this wasn’t obvious from the outside of the box and I would have been disappointed if I could not charge up immediately. You can get a 2 pin plug converter which will enable you to plug it into a normal wall socket. I plugged in and left to charge for the 1 hour as stated in the instructions. The little green light flashes until fully charged, it then stops flashing and remains green.Mine was fully charged after about 45 minutes.I had left my leg hair and underarm hair to grow for just over 2 weeks so it was reasonably long enough to give the Braun Silk-épil 5 5-511 Wet & Dry Epilator a good try.It is 100% waterproof so can be used in your bath or in your shower, it says that warm water helps you relax and makes it even more comfortable. The size of the epilator is reasonable enough to be able to hold comfortably in your hand and the specially designed Micro-grip Technology helps to efficiently remove hair by the root for long lasting smoothness.I also found the rubber grips help to ensure that you won’t drop it if you are using it in the bath or shower. I used it without the beginners cap however I did assemble as part of the review and I found it easy to attach and remove. You simply clip it into place and there is a button on the back that releases it.I tried it on my legs in the bath and this was really easy and relatively painless but I needed a mirror for my underarms so I used it dry for this. My underarms are more sensitive and so it was a little bit uncomfortable but not too bad. There are 2 speed settings and you will need to determine which speed to operate at. If this is your first time using an epilator, probably best to go low to start with as no matter what it says in the advertising or on the packaging, IT DOES HURT at first. I have used before so I used the higher speed. The epilator left both my legs and underarms lovely and smooth. It was very easy to operate, both wet and dry and glided evenly over my skin. Underarms are a little bit more difficult due to the curves but by holding my arm high and pulling the skin tight, I was able to get a nice smooth gliding action.Once you get used to the sensation of the epilator actually pulling each hair from it’s root, the pain is really not too bad. I found it best to grit my teeth and just keep moving back and forth without stopping.I really liked this epilator but it would be useful to have a travel adaptor for holiday use as the 2 pin plug is not often found abroad. The small brush, also provided to clean it with is really useful. I found that by tapping gently on a hard surface, most of the trapped hairs fell out and could easily be swept away but a few remained trapped in the teeth. I tried brushing these out with the brush provide which was quite successful but a couple of hairs that were stubborn, I pulled away with some tweezers. It is a good idea to use at night as some skin redness may appear but this shouldn’t last long also it is worth noting that the process of pulling the hairs from the root can lead to bacteria getting into the hair follicles and this could cause infection so it is vital to ensure good hygiene and wash the epilator thoroughly after each use.Overall, I was really happy with this epilator, I will definitely be using again. Now I just have to wait and see how long it is before I need to use again. Advertising states it can be up to 4 weeks but I think that most likely depends on how quickly you have regrowth rather than the efficiency of the epilator.

I think I will stick with my razor

I was very excited (and if I'm honest) nervous when I received my free Braun Silk Epil 5 5-511. I usually shave so was hopeful for hair free legs for a few weeks and the end of my usual routine of shaving every day. When I opened it up to use I was happy that it was already charged as I was thinking I would have to charge it for ages before I could let it loose on my legs. I didn't think it would be totally pain free but I did not expect to wince in pain like I did. I almost screamed when it first touched my skin. I tried pulling the skin tighter but for me it was way too painful. As I said before I do normally shave so I'm not used to having hair pulled out of my skin but even to hardened waxers I think this would be too painful to use! The plus points were that the colour was nice and it was comfortable to hold but unfortunately that was it and this product is not for me! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Ouch! Red but smooth

After recovering my epilator for free from Braun I was excited to try it out. I have never used an epilator before so was apprehensive. 1st use brought a tear to my eye but I'm sure after continued use I'll b fine. So for now a nice red but smooth patch on my leg. Worth the pain!

I had an epilator a few years ago. I only ever managed to remove hair from a one inch patch on my shin. The pain was unbearable! This Braun silk epil is so much superior. I love how you can use it in the bath. I feel that the heat from the bath helped ease the pain. I soaked for 10 mins before using. As I switched it on I heard the unmistakable sound of the tweezers whirring. I won't lie, it filled me with dread! But I gave it a go. The first few strokes were painful but this quickly eased. I managed to do both my lower legs without fainting! I have since used it 3 times in order to catch hairs that are on a different cycle and I am moving on to my upper leg, which is a little more sensitive but I will persevere. I really enjoy not having to shave daily, I am a convert. A little bit of pain is worth it to have smooth legs for 2 weeks at a time. The only improvement I would suggest would be for the charger to have a uk plug rather than a shaver plug as I had to purchase an adaptor in order to charge it as I do not have a shaver socket.

Perfect for newbies

always dubious about using new products and products made hair the removal of facial hair, this epilator came with 2 different heads which made it perfect and adaptable for various body parts. Was not too painful to use and would recommend to anyone who is curious about epilators!

Pleasantly surprised

I was really excited to get this epilator as my mum is using epilators and i tried it few years back and honestly could not take the pain. So after a long time staring at the box I decided that it was time to man up and at least have a closer look. The design is very nice and sleek and also like the weight so it sits nicely in your hand. And then i just tried different heads on but chose to stick with the original. Well then came the "fun" part but to my surprise I wasn't squealing as much and the pain was considerably less than I remembered. Took a while but managed to do both legs. Also I didn't start at the bottom and worked my way up to knees but the other way around and i think that helped a lot. Today i tried for second time as my hair was good lenght and wow almost no pain. I am so pleased with this product and already recommended to all girl i know are too scared or epilators like i was.

Super smooth!

I was delighted to receive the Silk-Epil free from Braun to try. I hate the tedious routine of shaving every few days so was excited to try this! The first few times I used the Silk-epil it was a bit painful, however the more I used it the easier it got. The unit comes with a mains charger (this does require an adaptor as it is a 2 prong plug). I charged the unit for an hour and got about 40 minutes use which was enough for 2 full uses. The hair comes in thinner and finer which means the result last longer than shaving which was great for me. I used this both wet and dry and found the wet was easier. The non slip handle made this easy to use and it was less painful. The only downside for me personally was that it was a bit sore the first few times I used it and that I had to get used to the smaller head. On my first use I missed a small area on my legs but again the more I used it the more I got used to it. I would definatley recommend this product but would say that it is a bit sore to start with, try to stick with it. You'll be glad you did :) [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Braun epilator is very fantastic!!

I was so excited to try the Braun silk-epil 5 5-511 for free from Braun, I have never used any sort of epilator before so before it arrived I was talking about it and most people said ouch ! When it arrived I was so nervous and decided to try it dry, as I had already showered. It came with charge but I did pop it on charge and it was fully charged Within 15...I would highly recommend this and i am very happy with the outcome!! Pain is Beauty

I was fortunate enough to receive a free Silk-epil 5 5-511 from Braun and was keen to try it out. I wax regularly so assumed I'd be fine epilating. After reading the instructions fully, I decided to try a test patch on my arm. I'm not sure what I was expecting but I wasn't quite expecting the level of 'discomfort' stated in the manual. It hurt. And I was left with a rather red and blotchy bald patch on my arm. Not wanting to be defeated, I continued until I'd finished the whole of my lower arm. The initial shock wore off fairly quickly and I hardly noticed it towards the end. I even braved my other arm and finished that in no time at all. Since my first use of the Braun Silk-epil 5 5-511, I have removed the hair from my lower legs as well as the upper legs but I am yet to brave the bikini area or underarm. It does state in the manual that it can be used in both areas so no doubt I will give it a go very soon. I am very impressed with this product. It was my first time using and epilator and I am beyond pleased with the results. Even though my arms were red and blotchy after using it, I awoke to find the redness had completely disappeared and my arms were fairly smooth. It's now been a week and the regrowth is minimal (so minimal in fact that my camera couldn't focus enough to take a picture). I will probably repeat the process in a few days time as I think some of the pain was down to the length of the hair to begin with; I'd highly recommend shaving longer hair beforehand and then epilating the regrowth after a few days. Overall, I have given this product a 4 star rating. I will definitely continue using it and am looking forward to more brilliant, hairless and hopefully less painful results!!
