I last used this again tonight after about two weeks of hair growth and found that it stung a little more than the first time but I think that's because I tried it dry. I like that I didnt need to charge it so had had 2 uses already and no charge. I really like the sleekness of the it and that it's light weight. All in all I would use again and wound recommend it but I would strongly advise using it wet or with a shave cream to avoid stinging or a rash as it can be uncomfortable dry but perhaps after time you would become used to it. It also comes with a little brush to keep it clean.
First impressions from the packaging of my Braun Silk-épil 5 5-511 Wet & Dry Epilator are great. Nicely presented and eye catching design. It is blue and white which is OK although I prefer more feminine colours and would have been happier with pink or purple however, the blue does make it a bit more unisex and I see no reason why a man shouldn’t be just as interested in using it.However, the box is sealed with the instructions inside so information on the box could be better. It says “starter kit” on the box but I couldn’t find any details of just what this meant and what else might be needed or could be added at a later date. Also, I could not find any information about the plug that is supplied. It would be useful to make it clear that it is not a standard 3 pin square plug but actually a 2 pin plug that requires a shaver socket for charging.Inside the box I found that the braun silk epil comes with an instruction booklet, an attachment for beginners or first time users, a charging plug and cleaning brush. The beginners attachment combines epilation with shaving and so shaving gel or foam is also required. It is designed to help you get used to epilation as this is a process that removes the hair from the root and can be a bit painful. The attachment incorporates a twin blade, similar to a razor so care needs to be applied when handling this part. I also noted that there is a list of chemical ingredients incorporated in this part that sound quite alarming so best to read first if you have any allergies or particularly sensitive skin, just in case. It is suggested that this part be replaced after 12 uses but I could find no information as to where a replacement part can be purchasedIf you are a newbie, there are videos on youtube that show you exactly how to use.The 2 pin charger means you have to plug it into an electric shaver socket. Not a problem for me as I have one in my bathroom but this wasn’t obvious from the outside of the box and I would have been disappointed if I could not charge up immediately. You can get a 2 pin plug converter which will enable you to plug it into a normal wall socket. I plugged in and left to charge for the 1 hour as stated in the instructions. The little green light flashes until fully charged, it then stops flashing and remains green.Mine was fully charged after about 45 minutes.I had left my leg hair and underarm hair to grow for just over 2 weeks so it was reasonably long enough to give the Braun Silk-épil 5 5-511 Wet & Dry Epilator a good try.It is 100% waterproof so can be used in your bath or in your shower, it says that warm water helps you relax and makes it even more comfortable. The size of the epilator is reasonable enough to be able to hold comfortably in your hand and the specially designed Micro-grip Technology helps to efficiently remove hair by the root for long lasting smoothness.I also found the rubber grips help to ensure that you won’t drop it if you are using it in the bath or shower. I used it without the beginners cap however I did assemble as part of the review and I found it easy to attach and remove. You simply clip it into place and there is a button on the back that releases it.I tried it on my legs in the bath and this was really easy and relatively painless but I needed a mirror for my underarms so I used it dry for this. My underarms are more sensitive and so it was a little bit uncomfortable but not too bad. There are 2 speed settings and you will need to determine which speed to operate at. If this is your first time using an epilator, probably best to go low to start with as no matter what it says in the advertising or on the packaging, IT DOES HURT at first. I have used before so I used the higher speed. The epilator left both my legs and underarms lovely and smooth. It was very easy to operate, both wet and dry and glided evenly over my skin. Underarms are a little bit more difficult due to the curves but by holding my arm high and pulling the skin tight, I was able to get a nice smooth gliding action.Once you get used to the sensation of the epilator actually pulling each hair from it’s root, the pain is really not too bad. I found it best to grit my teeth and just keep moving back and forth without stopping.I really liked this epilator but it would be useful to have a travel adaptor for holiday use as the 2 pin plug is not often found abroad. The small brush, also provided to clean it with is really useful. I found that by tapping gently on a hard surface, most of the trapped hairs fell out and could easily be swept away but a few remained trapped in the teeth. I tried brushing these out with the brush provide which was quite successful but a couple of hairs that were stubborn, I pulled away with some tweezers. It is a good idea to use at night as some skin redness may appear but this shouldn’t last long also it is worth noting that the process of pulling the hairs from the root can lead to bacteria getting into the hair follicles and this could cause infection so it is vital to ensure good hygiene and wash the epilator thoroughly after each use.Overall, I was really happy with this epilator, I will definitely be using again. Now I just have to wait and see how long it is before I need to use again. Advertising states it can be up to 4 weeks but I think that most likely depends on how quickly you have regrowth rather than the efficiency of the epilator.
So today I had to try Braun silk-epil for the first time, also the first time I've used an epilator.I chose to get in bath and give it a go while legs are wet After reading the instructions and putting on the beginners cap I started my trial The pain was a little uncomfortable to start with a little like painful pins and needles but it wasn't too bad Legs were easy to do and instructions were clear Legs are silky smooth Next thought I'd try my under arms now this was uncomfortable and quite sharp but I carried on regardless And am so glad I did This product is as good if not better than a shaver Really impressed with first go
I had an epilator a few years ago. I only ever managed to remove hair from a one inch patch on my shin. The pain was unbearable! This Braun silk epil is so much superior. I love how you can use it in the bath. I feel that the heat from the bath helped ease the pain. I soaked for 10 mins before using. As I switched it on I heard the unmistakable sound of the tweezers whirring. I won't lie, it filled me with dread! But I gave it a go. The first few strokes were painful but this quickly eased. I managed to do both my lower legs without fainting! I have since used it 3 times in order to catch hairs that are on a different cycle and I am moving on to my upper leg, which is a little more sensitive but I will persevere. I really enjoy not having to shave daily, I am a convert. A little bit of pain is worth it to have smooth legs for 2 weeks at a time. The only improvement I would suggest would be for the charger to have a uk plug rather than a shaver plug as I had to purchase an adaptor in order to charge it as I do not have a shaver socket.
Tried the silk-epil 5 tonight only took an hour to charge- bonus managed to get both full legs done in this time unlike others I have used and had to recharge half way through! Easy to use, has two speeds. Was plucking out tiny hairs. Would defo recommend. Only thing I would suggest to improve would be to have a light on like other Braun epilators. Can't wait to try it in the bath :)
I was super excited about trying this as I have never used an epilator - I had been told these hurt but results were good! But is the pain worth the gain I asked myself. As this can be used on wet and dry skin I tried it immediately on my dry skin - it hurt - it really hurt so much I couldn't do a section big enough to see the difference and give a fair review! So to give a full review i manned up to try in the shower - much better! Maybe cos the skin or hair was softer but although it was still more uncomfortable than my usual shaving it wasn't to bad and the results were much better than shaving! This was a few days ago so i waited until i reviewed to see how quick the regrowth was - I had shaved one leg and epilated the other! My shaven leg has regrown quicker than the epilator. I have therefore rewarded a three out of five stars for this as it hurts but has good results but think this is something i would do on a pamper session or a quite night in or before a holiday but def not something in a rush if i'd forgotten to shave my legs! I was too scared and need to psych myself up to try another area other than my legs!
My first impression of the Braun Silk-épil 5 5-511 Wet & Dry Epilator was that it was very well packaged and felt reassured by the "Starter kit" speech bubble on the box front having never used an epilator before.Upon opening the box, I had to refer to the instruction booklet, which quite unnecessarily comes as one rather chunky booklet containing numerous languages. It would be, in my opinion, preferable to provide instructions in the language only where the item is being sold. The instructions stated that the epilator needed to be charged prior to first use. This epilator only comes with a shaver socket charger. Had I not had a shaver socket in my bathroom I would have been unable to use this. This is important to note prior to purchase, but is not detailed anywhere on the external packaging.Next I looked at the accessories, and again felt let down by the fact that the instruction booklet referred to items that I was not in receipt of such as lit tweezers and a massage head for the epilator, as I had a different version of the epilator sets. This epilator comes with a beginners razor head and a regular epilator head. The epilator took around 1 hour to charge fully and has a light that identifies when charging and charged which is useful.I tried the epilator with the regular head on it as opposed to the beginners razor head. This was a mistake. The reason I tried this was that it could be done on dry skin as opposed to the razor head which requires wet skin and shaving foam or shower gel to be applied to the skin before use. I got as far as one draw of the epilator halfway up my lower leg before I had to stop because of the pain. It was very painful and stung for a few minutes afterwards. Not wanting to give up, I decided to try the beginners razor head. This was much easier and I was able to use the epilator on both legs. It was still a little stingy, and my legs were slightly irritated after use but this disappeared within an hour. The epilator states that hair regrowth could take up to four weeks, however I had regrowth after around 3 days. This was perhaps because I used the beginner head as opposed to full epilation, but was still a disappointing result.I would not feel comfortable using this on bikini line or armpit hair as it was painful. I will, however, continue to use on my legs to determine if the epilator does live up to its claim of 4 weeks hair free.
Fed up of shaving I was keen to try an alternative but didn't know all that much about Epilators so with little research done I dived right in to try it for myself.I unpacked the box and charged up the epilator, whilst it was charging I looked through the instructions. It does not take much time to charge at all, I found charging for just over an hour was fine for my first use.I did find it a little difficult to follow the instructions, when it came to using the Epilator for the very first time, it didn't appear completely clear on which attachment to use although after re-reading a few more times I soon realised how to use it.I have never used an epilator before so I don't think that I was prepared for the pain that I initially felt. I used the Epilator wet for the first time, I lathered up and used the Epilator and I experienced what I can only describe as pulling sensation as it was removing the hairs I wasn't sure if that was exactly how it should feel but it actually became unbearable. I was being careful not to push down too hard but even lightly touching the skin had me taking a deep breath with the discomfort.I decided to tweet Braun for some advice just incase there was something I was doing wrong and they were very efficient in responding to me with some suggestions. They suggested doing it later on in the evening and exfoliating before using the epilator.I tried their suggestions and although it was a little easier I did find it still too uncomfortable to do both legs completely.I will persevere and keep trying as I like the idea of being hair free for longer as shaving is such a real pain and the fact that you can use the epilator dry is a real advantage. It is easy to handle even when using in wet conditions and it is important to get into a comfortable position to use.To charge it does come with a 2 pin plug so if you do not have a shaver socket you will have to buy an adaptor in addition to the Epilator. Also contained within the box were some tweezers which claim to remove hair as small as a grain of sand and well, they certainly do!
I have been looking for an alternative to shaving for a while and constantly toyed with the idea of waxing, but the thought of leaving my hair to grow for several days never appeals to me. I’ve been thinking about an epilator for some time and couldn’t wait to use this when it arrived. The first thing I’ll mention is that this doesn’t come with your standard mains adapter, just the two prong plug for a bathroom shaving unit. Although adapters can be purchased to use in a standard 3 point plug. It didn’t take long to charge at all, only about an hour and it was ready to go.The Silk Epil 5 comes with a beginner cap, which is recommended for the first time use. It has a razor blade on it also to tidy up and hairs that are missed. As this was my first time using it I decided to use the cap. It also has two speeds to it and being the beginner, I stuck to the slower speed. I used it in the shower, as this is where I normally shave. The instructions say to either use shaving gel/foam or shower gel if using in the shower to help the epilator glide over the skin. I used shower gel and it worked really well. I won’t lie, it is not a particularly pleasant process and it felt like small pin pricks on my legs as the hairs were pulled from the root. It was only uncomfortable whilst using it and as soon as I took it off my skin there was no pain, just instantly smooth legs. I thought my legs may have been red and blotchy straight after but there were no side effects from it at all. The instructions do say that it may take a short time for skin to adapt to epilation and that the initial discomfort will decrease over time. Even if the discomfort did stay the same, I would still use it as the results are fantastic. I really like this product and will be using it regularly.
So epliators remind me of being 15 years old and seeing my mum using a bit of machinery (that's what epliators looked like 17 years ago) I begged and begged to use it and took it to my leg.. the pain was horrendous and my experience was well and truly over in a matter of seconds. So as you can imagine I was worried about using the Braun Silk-épil 5-511 Starter Kit but it's so small and compact it put my mind at ease a little. I decided to first use it in the bath so the hairs on my legs would be soft, I used it with the starter attachment (which has a razor attached) along with shaving gel so it felt like I was just shaving with no discomfort whatsoever. I found that the hairs started to grow back within a week so I used the epliator again this time without the attachment, but still in the bath.. im not that brave!! Whilst I felt a slight 'snagging' at the skin it certainly wasn't unbearable and can see how it will get easier to use over time.. just over a week later and my legs are still relatively smooth so I am more than happy with this. The epliator is small and fits perfectly in the hand so you can be very precise with it, it works wonders in the bath and the charge seems to last a long time. This is the perfect hair removal system for all busy people that don't have time to shave every few days or sit around waiting for the wax to melt which in my opinion is a messy task in itself. The only downside to this was that I needed to buy an adapter plug to use it as it only has 2 prongs, but this only cost me a couple of pounds.
