Tidy little trimmer, just what I was looking for!

Thanks to Braun for letting me try the BT5050 trimmers for free, I'm so glad they did! All in all an excellent product with great versatility. I like to keep a very short beard around 1-2mm, which has been very tricky with beard trimmers I have tried in the past. These clippers did a brilliant job though- with a precision blade with settings right down to 1mm, it is so easy to maintain my beard just how I like it. The blades are extremely sharp, making for a very comfortable shave with no tugging on the hairs. They can be used cordless or whilst still plugged in, which I also find to be very useful if you have forgotten to charge them. Easy to clean too - simply rinse under the tap. The only down side is the lack of any useful instructions, although it is so simple to use you don't really need them. Definitely recommend this product. Braun - BT5050

I got this trimmer about a week ago. out of the box it was simple enough to use. Plug in to the charger, turn the dial to the length you want, lock the dial so it don't slip, press the button and trim your beard. You get another attachment for longer beards but I keep mine short so not really used that bit. You get a bag to store the trimmer and attachments in aswell. The plug to charge the trimmer is a 2 prong plug which I did not notice on the box and my previous trimmer had a standard 3 prong plug. I did I like the fact you can plug it in and use it if you have the 2 prong plug socket in your bathroom and not have to wait for it to charge first, which I did have to with my old one. It was comfortable to use and left and even trim all over, I did not have to keep going over the same areas. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Great new product

My brand new Braun only arrived today and already I am more than impressed with the quality. The streamline shape and smooth ceramic blades give an excellent result. Unlike conventional shavers there is no pulling or tugging and little to no irritation after use. Simple and easy to use and comes with a range of attachments. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking to purchase. 10/10 [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Makes my girlfriend happy

The blades are good, the motor is smooth and there is no tugging or poor cutting due to lubricant wearing out half way through a trim thanks to ceramic blades. It's easy to set different lengths by just moving a rolling dial switch to clearly marked settings so you don't end up with a collection of bits of plastic to snap on and off and lose down the back of the toilet. You can remove the trim length gauge piece altogether for close cropping prior to shaving with a razor or edging. Now to the could do better. The plastic of the length regulator is quite flimsy feeling. This is a shame as the rest of the unit is solid. Also the pop up sideburn trimmer is next to useless. The blades work fine but where it is situated means that when you try to use it in the mirror you can't actually see where you are aiming with it because the unit is in the way. Either I'm being a total idiot or someone really didn't test this feature out much. That said, this is a really good clipper, you get loads of use time out of a charge and it gives a really even clip with no need to keep going over and over an area to pick up stray hairs that are sticking up. Your first job will be to charge up the trimmer for 14-16 hours. The three plug/transformer combo provides the means to re-charge, with a lamp on the trimmer to indicate charging is taking place, however when fully charged the lamp remains lit, so there's no means to indicate full charge - just watch the clock. The Trimmer Comb is well designed and provides a fairly wide platform that sits against your skin to allow for an exceptional even well controlled shave/trim; it's also easy to clean. There are 9 shave settings/lengths available, set by the thumb wheel and next to that is a number indicator 1 to 9. The settings are as follows 1=1.5mm, 2=2.5mm, 3=4mm, 4=5.5mm, 5=7mm, 6=9mm, 7=11mm, 8=14mm, 9=18mm. Now I only use the short length settings so unable to comment on the longer settings, but I started off with the 1/1.5mm setting which provided a good even cut, but I did find that compared to other trimmers I've used this seemed a tad shorter, so I've now settled for the 2/2.5mm setting that seems to cut to around the 2mm mark. It should also be noted that the Comb and Thumb Wheel holds its place in-between settings so if careful may offer further cut lengths! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Brilliant braun yet again

I received my BT5050 for free from Braun and I must say, I am quite impressed. I have used similar products in the past, but these have been more general 'body groomers', but this targets the bearded man and it delivers. I was suprised at how lightweight the unit was and it gave a very smooth shave - no tugging at all. I definitely think that I would have had more of a benefit from the product had my facial hair had been a bit longer, but it is quite short at present (I'll definitely be recommending this to my brother, who's facial hair is far more impressive!). I hasten to add that I did try using the shaver without the blade guards on areas where my facial hair was very short - I do not recommend this, as doing so can cause nicks, and this is not the intended use for the item. Suitable for stubble growers and the longer beards

*** I received this product for free so I could provide a fair and honest review after experiencing the function and operation of the Braun BT5050 Beard Trimmer *** Out of the box it feels well-made and is easy to use with a rotary dial which is set to adjust the cutting length of the precision length trimmer. Like most men I tend to stay within a limited range of cutting lengths, so I have found a setting which suits my needs and style. The cutting action itself is simple and smooth, with no snagging in my experience. It’s also very ergonomic, and is simple to wash under a tap so the whole trimming operation is very good. I particularly like that this model comes complete with a small bottle of lubricating oil for the blades, a cleaning brush and a travel bag to keep everything in. Other trimmers I’ve owned often haven’t been supplied with a bag of any kind so the attachments can get mixed up or even lost. The cutting blades themselves are supposed to last a lifetime according to the manufacturer, and with care I can certainly believe that possible. It can take upto 8 hours to achieve a full charge of the batteries, which is longer than other rechargeable trimmers I’ve used but that does give it enough juice to last for upto 50 minutes according to the packaging and will certainly last me a couple of weeks. There aren’t really any downsides that I have found – it’s just a decent trimmer from a decent brand. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Powerless and cheap

Having considered obtaining a new beard trimmer for a while, imagine my delight when I received a Braun Beard Trimmer BT5050, free from Braun. Then imagine my disappointment when I unwrapped this gift and put it to the test. Upon holding the trimmer, it felt light and cheap, which surprised me given the brand. But as I wanted to see what the device could do, I put my concerns about it's build aside. I plugged the trimmer in for the recommended 8 hours so I could give it a fair test. Throughout the entire charging period, the trimmer emitted a high pitch noise. I normally charge trimmers / electric toothbrushes in the same socket overnight without sound, but the noise was so distracting I had to charge it during the day whilst out of ear-sight - not ideal. When I came to switch the trimmer on for the first time, I was surprised by the seemingly lack of power that you usually get with trimmers. But I reserved judgement until proper use. I first used the trimmer for a close shave under the jaw line. It took me 2 or 3 attempts to finish the job, compared with a first attempt with my current trimmer. Not good. I then attached the stubble guard to finish the rest of my facial hair. Again this took longer than I expected. Not good. Overall I feel hugely disappointed in this product. The poor performance of it I can only put down to a lack of power, as the clippers looked sharp enough. Be it the motor or battery, something didn't feel right. I wouldn't recommend this trimmer to others, given my experience. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Perfect precision trimmer

Thanks to Braun I got to try this trimmer for free and I'm so glad I've had the chance. As someone who trims their beard on a regular occasion a good trimmer is a must, this trimmer is definitely that! The trimmer comes with two clip on cutting guides, trimmer oil, a cleaning brush and a handy carry case. The first clip on guide comes with a twist and turn control to change the cutting length, giving you precision from 0-10mm in 0.5mm increments. The second clip on guide is a simple push up control allowing lengths from 10-20mm for the longer beard or hair trimming. Removing the guide gives you a fairly close stubbly look. I have been using mine every other day for a week now and it has not needed to be charged yet. When trimming the trimmer fits into the hand nicely and does not cause any tugging or pulling of hairs. What I liked about this trimmer in comparison to others I've used is that when used against the grain it doesn't miss any hairs. This helps for a nice even looking beard. The guides are easy to adjust to allow for different lengths of trimming, meaning grading your beard is a dream! Overall, I think this trimmer is a great all rounder and blows all other trimmers I've used out of the water. The battery life seems really good, the cut is smooth and painfree, the precision cutting is very flexible and after the trim is finished it slides perfectly into its compact carry case. Definitely would recommend! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Best shaver ive used

I have struggled to find an electric shaver over the years for my needs, I have fine hair and sensitive skin. I found the shave to be very quick and precise. Other razors I have used would leave my skin sore and red because I would have to go over and over to get a consistent shave, with the braun shaver I only needed to go over one or twice to get all the hair. When shaping my beard It was great on the lowest setting, cutting in the shape and the sideburns. With the longer hair using the hair attachment was great and picked up the hair without snagging and pulling. The attachments felt like good quality and sturdy, one of the best features of the incremental attachment was the lock, before I have used shavers which would change the length as you were using them and ruin the shave. With this you can shave in confidence that you will get a great look to how you want. I was given this razor as a freebie from braun but I would recommend this to all my friends as it was exactly what I want from a shaver. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Solid choice for a beard trimmer

*** Note - I received my Beard Trimmer for free from Braun in return for an honest review *** I have now used the Braun BT5050 for 3 weeks, trimming approximately 2 times a week. I'm still on the first charge of the trimmer, so battery life seems to be pretty good so far. The manual states that a full charge provides up to 40 minutes of cordless operating time, so we shall see if that continues to hold! I've found the BT5050 beard trimmer very easy to use - with a simple dial to adjust trim length and a tab to lock it at this position. The beard trimmer attachment can be removed very easily for cleaning or for swapping with the hair trimmer, but I have not had cause to use the hair trimmer as yet. Having come from a competitors model, the things that I initially missed on this trimmer were the lack of a digital display to show trim length, and a battery indicator to show current charge level. Having used this for more time now, I don't tend to vary length very often, so I'm happy with the lack of display once I've set it. However, the lack of battery indicator is a little more of a niggle and the thought of being halfway through a trim and the trimmer losing charge is a little perturbing. The manual does mention that the charge indicator should go red when the battery is low, allowing enough time for the current trim to be completed. I've yet to put this to the test, but it relies on a little more faith I guess than previous trimmers that I've been used to. All in all, I think this is a solid choice for a beard trimmer - yes there are others with more bells and whistles, but I'm sure you'll be paying for those!
