No, I do not recommend this product.
Having hastily grown my beard ready to use my free BT5010 Beard Trimmer from Braun it finally arrived yesterday and my initial thoughts having used this product for the first time is the simplicity the product offers its user. The Braun BT5010 Beard Trimmer is very simple to use & the 20 different length settings offer the user a range of lengths suited to the style you are looking to achieve. I would advise the user to start on the higher setting as I made the mistake of using setting 4 which took my beard length much shorter than I initially wanted but this with any product is based on Trial & error. I found the Braun BT5010 to be of a nice design & fits nicely in the users hand. The only down side I found while using the Braun BT5010 was I had to stop on a couple occasions & clean the blade with the enclosed brush as the head was getting blocked but this could have been due to the length of beard I had grown & was easily cleared & just a minor inconvenience. For the price you would pay in the shops & based on my experience of previous beard trimmers the Braun BT5010 is simple to use, has a nice slick design, has efficient battery life & again demonstates efficient German manufacturing. I have always maintained a short stubble beard, and found that rather than using a dedicated beard trimmer, it was best for me to use the trim attachment on my electric razer. But when the opportunity came up to try a Braun BT5010, I thought I'd give it a go.
So Braun very kindly sent me a BT5010 to try out for free and as soon as I received it I set to work having a look through the pack.
What do you get with the trimmer? You get a standard bathroom adaptor charger, a small bottle of oil and a mini brush for maintenance and an instruction manual.
All fairly standard affair so far, not much different compared to any other shaver or beard trimmer out there.
So onto the trimmer itself and the first thing I noticed is that it's got a good weight to it and is very sturdy. I have previously had a beard trimmer from Babyliss that in comparison was extremely light and flimsy, and after looking at the cost difference, was surprised to see that the Braun isn't much more expensive and is very reasonable in price. So perceived quality so far is good.
The next aspect of the trimmer I noticed was the precision dial for adjusting the hair length guard. This is probably the cleverest way of adjusting beard length I've found on any hair trimmer, normal hair dressing sheers included. It's easy to use and includes a lock switch so that you can't accidentally twist it whilst shaving. The whole guard also comes off via 2 buttons on the sides and is simple to remove and re-attach to access the blades for an even shorter cut and for cleaning.
So how was it in use? For longer hair, very effective - I gave it a try on a small patch of chest hair first and it cut very smoothly without grabbing and pulling the hair at all (which is a problem I've had in the past with other shavers), and the guard was effective at changing the desired hair length.
Next I tried it on my face, now as I mentioned at the beginning, I like to maintain a short stubble - enough to define a chin line but no more length than that. I shave only once per week to maintain this and so on my usual shaving day (Sunday) I set the trimmer guard to it's lowest setting and found that it wasn't short enough to pick up my 5mm length facial hair at the time. So I took the guard off completely and tried again, only to find that it started scratching my skin quite easily and wasn't cutting the hairs as short as I'd like (ideally down to 1-2mm).
So I was left a bit red faced and switched back to my normal shaver which carried on the rest of the shave fine.
Maybe I was using it incorrectly and had it at the wrong angle, I'm not sure, maybe some more trial and error is required.
So in summary, if you have a decent beard length and maintain it on a regular basis, this trimmer is for you and I'm certain you'll be pleased with it. If however like me, you maintain a short stubble rather than a full beard, I'd look elsewhere. So 4 stars out of 5 for me based on great quality, but not for all beard situations.
Ironically, on the advice of my wife, I'm now growing my beard out and have a good 3 weeks growth which would be perfect for this trimmer! Funny how things work out in the end. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Great size and weight. Chargers in no time at all holds its power well. Love the incredible precision from the huge amount of settings though I really only use 2 and I feel most men would probably do the same. Buts it's nice to have the option should I ever decide to go MENTAL with my beard. Have taken it abroad twice and enjoyed touching up the beard efficiently and easily. Could have used some sort of plastic stand to be supported on when not being used but that's minor. Overall I like!!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
So I've been trying the Braun BT5010 which I received for free from Braun, and the conclusion I've come to is that it's great for regular use, but don't leave it too long between trims.
It seems to struggle with beards that are longer than it is adjusted for, but if you use if every 3 or 4 days it becomes almost effortless in keeping the beard under control. My work colleagues and girlfriend have certainly noticed a difference in how neat my beard now is, and it has helped no-end with the faster growing hairs towards the edge of my beard.
*easy to clean
*feels nicely weighted in the hands
*quick to charge, lasts a long time between charges
*adjustment stays where you want it to stay
*struggles with thicker beards
Rated 4/5, but this is the only beard trimmer I've used so nothing specific to compare it to. Has advantages and disadvantages when compared to my basic Wahl hair clippers [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
This is a beard trimmer - plain and simple. It doesn't claim to be anything else, but with so many competing products working for a whole range of other 'man-scaping' related activities, it's important to clarify - even with the comb attachment removed the blade would be just too wide for anything else.
But as a beard trimmer, this product is ingenious. Having used other trimmers before which come with a selection of combs that you swap out to change lengths, this is a breath of fresh air! The included comb is a wonderful addition that makes this product stand out amongst its peers. With incredible precision through 20 different length settings, it really will give you the perfect trim! It's particularly great when looking to style a new look, as you can slowly work your way down the lengths, removing a little at a time, to let you get a feel for different styles.
The slightly pricier models do include some extra attachments that I think would be worth spending the extra on. The wide blade does limit more precise styling, and I needed a smaller trimmer to complete the finishing touches, so perhaps investing in a slightly higher end model would be a good idea.
Although I received this as a free sample from Braun, the excellent comb really makes this product excel, and even with its limitations I will still be using this primarily. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I had been using the same trimmer for over a year that i received as a gift for fathers day. Don't get me wrong it was a good trimmer but it wasn't a big brand name and also didnt have a rechargeable battery. When i heard i was getting the BT5010 to try out for free I couldn't help but feel a bit excited. No more hunting for batteries half way through a trim! When it arrived i was really impressed with sleek design of the trimmer. It has a good weight and feels really comfortable in the hand. I thought the adjustable dial was a great idea. My previous trimmer was on an adjustable slider and there was always the risk you could change the setting if you pressed to hard. Nothing to worry about with the BT5010, not only does it have 20 length settings ranging from 1-10mm, you can lock in your length to avoid a catastrophic beard mistake. If you do need to go right down to the wood then the beard comb easily detaches. When it comes to cleaning then just pop it under the tap. Job done. Just remember not to clean it while charging! The supplied charging cable is high quality, adjusting to worldwide voltages making it suitable to take on holiday with you. Charges rapidly as well. The only drawback for me is the beard comb doesnt have longer settings than 10mm. I prefer to grow my beard longer while keeping it neat but its not possible with this trimmer. To conclude, thisbis an awesome trimmer. If your in the market for a new one for yourself or your looking to get someone a gift then you cant go wrong the BT5010. I will be recommending it to my friends and family. On a side note i also shaved my head with it and it did an excellent job! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Good smooth blade adjustment. Doesn't tug at hair when shaving. Oil the blade before and after using, helps keep it in check and stops rust. One of the hood about this trimmer is you can rinse it! Now I've used one I'd happily recommend to all beardies. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I recevied my beard trimmer for free from braun recently and was pleased with the compact packaging and ease of use right out of the box. If you have used other Braun products such as their toothbrushes like I have you will be familiar with good quality and simplicity to get started. The ability to adjust the lengths over a wide range means it should suit most beard lengths. Overall a good product and one that I would recommend. Would make a good gift (although i'm unsure of the exact RRP) or a good first beard trimmer if you havent tried using before. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Received this Beard trimmer from Braun and been testing for a week or so now.vWorks perfect for trimming no tug nice and smooth battery seems to last however doesn't come with the 2 pin converter but they are cheap to buy. The trimmer looks nice and performs well but gets very messy hair gets everywhere! Over all tho its a great little trimmer and it's ideal for keeping your beard trim [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
