FAQs

Braun Series 5 FAQs

What's the difference between foil and rotary shavers?
Rotary shavers use cyclical movements while Braun foil shavers are designed to work with efficient sideways movements giving you perfect control and precision. The foils protect skin from irritation and are specifically designed to deliver a supremely thorough and comfortable shave from Braun.

What's the difference between the different Series 5 models?
The 5090cc model has high-quality metal surfaces and the most advanced display of all the Braun Series 5 shavers: a precise 5-level battery status indicator with low charge warning as well as a travel lock and hygiene indicator. The 5090cc also features the advanced Intelligent Clean&Charge Station from Braun: it cleans, charges, lubricates and selects a cleaning programme at the touch of a button - so your shaver feels new, every day. For more information about the Series 5 range, please consult the Series 5 Model overview.

Why do I need a Clean&Charge Station when I can clean my Series 5 shaver under tap water?
Our tests show that cleaning your shaver with a Clean&Charge Station is significantly more hygienic than cleaning it under the tap. It's also more convenient: at the touch of a button your shaver is automatically cleaned, charged and lubricated.

I already have a Cleaning Centre from my previous Braun shaver (Syncro, Activator, 360 etc.). Can I use it with the new Series 5 shaver?
No, the Series 5 marks the introduction of a new generation of shavers with fully revamped technology and can’t be used with previous Cleaning Centres.

Can I buy a solo shaver and upgrade to a Clean&Charge Station later?
No, shaver and Clean&Charge Station are designed to connect during the cleaning procedure. Shavers sold without the Clean&Charge Station don’t have this connection technology.

How often do I need to replace the Clean&Charge refill cartridge?
If you clean your shaver with the Clean&Charge Station twice a week, you will only need to replace the refill cartridge every 2 to 3 months to experience a shaver that feels new, every day. The Save & Subscribe option from Amazon allows you to sign up for regular home delivery and save 10% on the price of the Clean&Charge refill. You don't have to worry about ordering and will always have a Clean&Charge refill available when you need one.

Do you have any recommendations on how to shave using an electric foil shaver?
We recommend shaving before your shower. After a few days without shaving, for example over the weekend, we recommend trimming your stubble before you shave. Stretch your skin and shave against the direction of beard growth. Hold the shaver at right angles (90°) to your skin at all times. In difficult to shave areas, like under the nose, you can use the MultiHeadLock switch to lock the shaver head and manually select one of five available shaver head angles to best suit your needs. Keep pressure even to achieve a thorough and comfortable shave from Braun. Series 5 features an integrated precision trimmer with superior cutting performance for trimming your sideburns, moustache or beard. Simply slide the trimmer upwards to use this comfortable and precise tool.

How often do I need to change the shaver head?
We recommend replacing all cutter parts every 18 months.

Does the battery suffer from a memory effect, like mobile phones or laptops?
No, Series 5 shavers use a Li-ion battery, which does not suffer from the memory effect. You can recharge it whenever you want and it has a low self-discharge rate (vs. NiMh batteries). As a result, Li-Ion batteries are the most powerful and long-lasting batteries for Braun shavers.

I just love this razor I have always been a wet shave man but this is the first electric razor I have tried. I only used to shave once a week but now and because of this razor i shave every day. I have had this razor for about 3 months and only had to charge it twice. the shave is very comfortable and leaves no soreness at all its very easy to use and fits into the hand very easily the only draw back is that when it is supplied it does not come with a universal adaptor had to go out and buy one

Yes, I recommend this product !

An Electric Razor Convert!!

I’ve never enjoyed shaving, and tend to leave it a couple of weeks before doing so as my skin normally breaks out as soon as a razor comes near it, even then I normally use a beard trimmer instead. With the Braun 5030s I have been able to shave every day and haven’t had a single problem! It felt smooth and glided over my skin easily, once Id perfected the technique of using it I found it a pleasure to use. You can change the head to pivot with the contours of your face, or lock them into one of 5 positions. I only used the locked position when doing my sideburns, other than that the “Flex MotionTec” was a major benefit. If like me you have slightly longer facial hair to start with I’d recommend using the precision trimmer first as it didn’t deal with the long hair well and I felt a slight pulling. You can also use it to tidy up your moustache and side burns. The rubber grips made the razor comfortable to hold and use and you need them as it defiantly has a powerful BUZZ!! One downside to the 5030s is its weight; it’s a heavy bit of kit, but does feel well made and sturdy! The battery life is fantastic – can easily take it fully charged on a week’s holiday without the need of taking the charging cord, but if needed you can use it plugged in.The handy little travel case that comes included makes it easy to tidy away with the cleaning brush and lubricating oil meaning you won’t lose those little bits.Overall a great pleasure to use and will definitely be shaving more often, much to the delight of my wife!

Braun Series 5 Shaver - Not just another electric razor!

I have had my electric shaver (not made by Braun) for a few years now, and I was happy with the results, it made me look presentable! Now, I have received the Braun Series 5 Shaver to try. On opening the box, I was surprised how small the head was, compared to my old rotary electric shaver; it had a good weight to it, which made me think the battery would hold a good long charge. The feel of it in my hand was good, ergonomic with a good grip. I read the instruction book thoroughly, unusual for a guy I know, but that's what I do! And put the shaver on to charge.Ready for my first shave, I was blown away with the feel of power from the Braun and from the quality of the cut. I don't know if my old razor was just old and worn, or of inferior quality; but how did I ever do without this Braun?! A cliché I know, but it was the best electric shave I have ever had.

Finally! The Braun Series 5 is the electric shaver I've always wished for...

I've only ever used 1 electric razor before, and I was so underwhelmed I can't even remember how long ago it was or what brand it was. Suffice to say, it did a poor, patchy job of tidying up my facial topiary, and I swore to never abandon wet shaving ever again.Thank goodness, then, that BzzAgent sent me this Braun Series 5 to try - what an eye opener!Well boxed, well designed, and sleek looking, it oozes quality. This is the sort of thing that would make an excellent gift, as it really is a beauty to look at; so much more than just a boring black shaver. It feels great in the hand, and everything is laid out intuitively so you can get cracking with it right away. The instruction booklet is how instructions should be - short, sweet, and easy to follow. It explains how to get started, as well as maintenance to keep it in good nick (everything you will need to do this is included, of course). As I say, in use it's fairly intuitive, and even a shaving luddite like me picked it up in no time. The head pivots around the contours of your face, and there is nothing to it - just push it around your face at a smooth pace, and let the fancy foil head find all the nooks & crannies. You can lock the head in place as well, in a variety of poses, just for that extra bit of precision should you want it.Once you get the hang of it, you can be done in just a few minutes, and you don't even have to be stood over the sink thanks to the way it collects hair in the unit itself - so it's great if, like me, every minute is precious in the mornings!I was expecting my skin to be mildly irritated, simply because it was something new, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that this wasn't the case - my skin was smooth and supple as ever, and after my usual routine of sploshing on a bit of very diluted tea tree oil and letting my skin cool, it felt just as happy and smooth as normal. There's a little edge trimmer built-in, which you simply slide out with your thumb, that allows you to do straight edges (e.g. side burns), so it really is a great all-round unit for doing your whole face and neck. All in all, I'm really impressed with this little blighter!Nigh on impossible to take a "selfie" whilst shaving, so the photo belI've only ever used 1 electric razor before, and I was so underwhelmed I can't even remember how long ago it was or what brand it was. Time to bin the wet shave gear......

I have owned an electric shaver in the past and never really enjoyed the experience. I found that they only really worked well with a maximum of one or two days of growth at best and even then the hard to reach areas under the chin were always a real pain.I also found that they left my skin dry and irritable and so I always preferred a wet shave finding them easer, more efficient and with better results. So when my Braun Series 5 shaver arrived, I have to say, I wasn't holding out much hope of being impressed.I have to say, shaving technology has come on leaps and bounds in recent times!I had a weeks worth of stubble and braced myself for the pain but I was amazed to find that there we no nipping and tugging as I had experienced in the past. The shaver looked cool and was really easy to set up and use. There were no problems in terms of "tough spots" with the whole beard being smooth and soothed post shave. No stubble rash and no burning skin.It comes in a really nice black drawstring bag that makes carrying for holidays really easy as all of the kit (charging wires/cleaning fluid and cleaning brush) fit in nicely.I was prepared for the worst but I was very impressed and I am now a convert to electric shave over wet shave.

5 Stars if I could use it in the shower

Ok lets start off by saying this would have got a 5 star rating had I been able to use it in the shower (as this is where I tend to have a shave)I was so impressed with the closeness of the shave, the ease of use and the quality shave that didn't irritate my skin. (I do have sensitive skin)The unit itself had a nice feel to it, it wasn't too heavy but had a quality finish to the way it felt whilst being used and whilst cleaning.I didn't use the trimmer much as I generally don't but it was a nice added bonus.I was so impressed with the shaver that I told my brother and he has gone out and bought one after giving mine a go.I would highly recommend this shaver to more of my friends and family.

Love It! Best Electric Shaver I have used

I was incredibly excited when my bzz package arrived and was not disappointed, the razor looks premium and substantial. I was a little surprised by the size because my last electric razor was over 15 years ago and was a third of the size in comparison.I charged the product for about 2 hours and tested the noise levels - very loud, which to me is good as suggests it has more power.I usually have a beard and decided that I would tr and shave straight onto the 2 week beard growth, I will admit I was a little nervous but the razor did a great job. It may be wasn't as close as a wet shave but that is probably more down to me not really knowing how to use the product. On further usage the razor did a sterling job on a par with a wet shave and leaves no irritation which is incredible. My only reason for not giving a higher mark is because the dock shown on the box was not actually included with the product which I found a little bit of a shame.

Good dry shave razor

I have been using this razor for 2 weeks on a daily basis and find it gives a really good close shave for an electric shaver, the only thing that stops it getting 5 out of 5 is that it does leave my skin a bit dry afterwards maybe a built in moisturiser would solve this and i would be prepared to pay a little bit more for that! All in all a great razor.

raving bout shaving my new best buddy

at last a shaver that works as it shouldi work in an industrial enviroment where the need to shave everyday is not a formality, (i usually have a shave every sunday or very special occasions by then i have a thick beard the wife loves, not)i have not had a wet shave since my wedding day (long time ago) and have used electric shavers mostly since i started shaving some 25 years agoSo the braun, opened the box firt thing i noticed was the size, its pretty big, and then the feel. it feels great, very solid and chunky but smooth.i put it on charge and had my first shave with it a few days lateri had a good week and a halfs solid scruffy growth by then i used the trimmer bit first on the thicker areas, around the chin etc no problems there and trimmed as expectednext to the shave and great it works a charm, a couple of runs over the cheeks and smooth as a babies bum certainly the closest shave i have had in a long time, the flexible head is perfect for neck and jawline areas, it was quick as well it cut smooth with usually two strokes and didnt struggle anywhere.have to say i am very inmpressed, wife was pleased with the finish as welleven better than that ive used it about four times now and its still on the first charge, i imagine if i shaved daily it would be as good as a wet shaveso top marks to braun i will never use another brand again
